I just reached down and picked up this morning's paper, and as I walked back to the house, I read the front page headline:

Man Dies in Year's First Homicide

1. You live outside of the US.
a. It's not morning yet.
b. More people get killed in the US than that in one New York minute.

2. If there is a homicide, somebody died. That'd make that headline a tautology.

Pretty good scorekeeping. Could have been a woman or a child. And I assume it wasn't the January 2nd issue of the paper.
And maybe they were short on ink or space. The option seems to be "is victim of".

There was a headline in my local paper once -
"Man Recovers From Fatal Crash
 
Maybe it was fatal, just not to him.
When I die I want to go peacefully asleep like my Grandfather, not screaming and crying like the rest of the people in his carpool.
Jay Leno has published at least one volume called "Headlines" that contain many examples like those above.
