I am a mitel certified tech on the mitel 5000, and work on the sx every now and then. My boss recently sold a hotel a new sx 200 icp ax. I installed all the cards, put the 4g flash card from mitel in the slot 2 bay, and tried booting it...it fails. In the manual it says that all the software is pre loaded, but this thing does nothing. I imagine its an easy question to those of you have installed these guys before.

this is what i see

The controller is unable to read the boot file (/partition1/rtc8260) from the boot location specified in the bootline parameters. Make sure your bootline parameters are correct.

I'm no SX200 AX expert. Lord knows I've posted many many threads regarding the installtion and administration of one over the past few weeks. I think you have to boot it without the flash installed in it first. Shut it down, insert flash in slot 2, boot it up.

Did some reading. According to the tech handbook(Release 5.0, page 104) the AX controller has to be booted once without the installtion flash to change the boot parameter "ata=auto" automatically. This directs the system to read the internal flash on boot-up. That is, if you are having issues with the boot parameters.

It should boot the first time with the module in place.

A recent install of mine had issues with the dock for the flash card. One pin pushed back instead of inserting.

If I boot it with no cf installed, I just get this....

boot device : ata=auto
unit number : 0
processor number : 0
file name : /partition1/rtc8260
inet on ethernet (e) : 192.168.1.2:ffffff00

flags (f) : 0x0
other (o) : motfcc

ataDrv: ataDriveInit failed on Channel 0 Device 0

Disk Configuration Started.
Creating block device for controller 0 drive 0...

and it never does anything.

When I boot the system with no drives, I get the above. When I boot the system with the 4g cf card from mitel, I get the following. I do not understand the text when it is saying it is building partitions, but they all have no capacity. If it creates a partition on drive 0 with 0kb of data, how is it supposed to load a file from there if there is nothing there?

boot device : ata=0,0
unit number : 0
processor number : 0
file name : /partition1/rtc8260

If the dock is working and all pins connected I would guess that the flash drive is either defective or not configured properly.

I plugged the 4g cf into my reader, it has files on it, but I do NOT see any files that begin with RTC "Loading /partition1/rtc8260...n/a". in the cx/cxi and ax manual, on page 346, it shows the file name is /partition1/Kts8250.vx. I DO see that file on the cf card. Should I change that? Dont want to brick anything. This thing is supposed to go in Thursday

Ok, my last post in incorrect, it was the flash drive I built to reload the system, but it does not work either. On the 4g card, it is labled /vmail and has no system software on it, so, where does the ax get its software from to boot up?

Did you not get a software flash with the system?

Typically comes in an envelope with a MOH jack in it.

If you took the flash provided and did anything to it other than plug it in, then you really should should not have done that.

The Flash you created would be used to load a running flash. Yours goes in slot one and the one to be the running flash in slot 2

I don't typically recommend that you use non-mitel flash cards as this has been a problem in the past.

I got a 4g cf card with the MOH deal, but when I looked on it, it only has vm stuff on it. So, I put the latest release of software on a mitel 5000 cf card, and put it into flash bay 1. It still would not boot. This is what was causing the issue, i think...Loading /partition1/rtc8260...n/a on none of the flash drives is that file. In the manual, it shows a different file should be listed, Kts8250.vx. I changed the boot script to look for that file. Boom, it loaded everything up. So, I have been hunting and pecking getting this thing up and working, but I do have a new question. This is licensed for a hotel, to have 200+ mailboxes and all that. I have looked in the manuals, and the web and cannot figure out how I am supposed to get those features on here. I did go to form 4, and see option 100 has a totally different password than what I have on my feature options record form. Is it as easy as entering my new MOC and password?

Yes, simply enter the MOC and it will configure the options and then the passcode will enable them. (as long as whoever created that license and options sheet knew what they were doing.)

For the record, here is what a normal boot should like like

[pre]boot device : ata=auto
unit number : 0
processor number : 0
file name : /partition1/Kts8250.vx
inet on ethernet (e) : 192.168.1.2:ffffff00

Thank you, and, I created the record sheet for my license...I set it all up in AMC. It shows everything now as it should. Now I need to do my reading to see how this girl works in a hotel....fun fun days

I can't imagine the challenges you face.

Good luck

VonZipper,

I've faced similar issues over the past couple of months. kwbMitel has been nothing short of awesome for me. I'm interested to know about any more future issues you may run into with this install. If you would, please post the issues in the forum. I've found that reading through these Mitel threads helps me learn new things and enforce what I've already learned.

So far, so good. Been reading the manual, and adding in info as I go. I have all my rooms in, thats a pain being as they use 100 thru 400 numbers so I had to change a few other feature numbers and such. The console is actually up and running, can view the guest rooms and all of that. Right now I am about to dive back into the manual to figure out how to setup the trunks. Good times I must say lol... It goes in tomorrow at 10am, my dispatcher keeps sending me new workorders to be done today...not sure how many ways I can explain that I dont have time...but oh well...she will figure it out when they do not get done. I cannot be in 10 different places at once.

I have three 4+12 port combo cards. I am going to have 11 loop start lines. I see how to route them in form 14, but I have to add them to a trunk descriptor in form 13. None of them make any sense to me, but, I am assuming I choose the 4 circuit class? Do I need to change anything in the options other than yes, its a class circuit, and yes I want some users to be able to grab a co line without the ars stuff?

nope, that dont work, says the tcd must match the circuit type...
