MXE upgrade to Virtual

Hi,
What would be the best way to upgrade an MXE on version MiVB8.0 SP3 PR2 to a Virtual MiVB9.0.
I cant use the migration tool as the controller is an MXE.
Is there a way I can restore the database from the existing controller and restore on to the new Virtual MiVB?

first off check the ARID - is it standalone ?
if it is you have to convert to enterprise
you also need to add a virtualisation license
then all analog(TDM) related data needs to be deleted
once system is enterprise with NO Analog data it should be able to be restored into a vmivb

personally i havent done this

i prefer to do export/ import to migrate user config to new system
