Hi,

59 members and not one post, as I said, the hardware must be really robust.

I may be looking to upgrade my Hicom, the one I have is ten years old.

I really need to know more about telecoms technology as it stands today and where it's going, VOIP, voicemail to email etc.. I fancy staying with Siemens as the system I have is great, sometimes flaky, especially the software.

Apparently HiPath is the next generation of Hicom's.

I've got a PDF file with some sale's info if anyone's interested ?

On a personal level, i've never had major problems with the Hicom's over the last 8 years, but maybe I'm just lucky.

Hi lever,

Couldn't tell you until Monday, think it's V3.47 (rings a bell), I'll let you know.

I use CM Win, as I'm not a techie, I thnik we have DYPAS.

I know the CM Win software very well, I also use Hyperterminal for accessing the ROLM Phonemail box.

What about yourselve, what hardware are you using?

I've got multi sites.

Anything from a 372 to 350's with a couple of 330 thrown in. The oldest is still running 3.3 software.

I mainly use Comtes to admin these systems, but wev'e got CM-Win on one of them, just don't use it much.
Same thing with the Phonemail, Hyperterm.

Also using a Definity and some Alcatels on other sites.

Lot's of toy's for a little boy to play with.

Digga,

You mentioned VOIP with Hicom, We are investigating what IPT system to install in our offices- 3K users in the UK and 3K in 29 offices globally. We initially looked at Siemens as well as Norel, Mitel, Avaya and Cisco. We have 5 x Hicoms plus a test system in our "lab". Though the Hipath looks good it isn't really IP as far as I can make out

1. IP is all about mobility, users being able to Hot Desk between buildings or even within their own office. However Siemens still use their Opti phones with paper labelling - not very good for true hot desking

2. They do not recommend - their words not mine, installing Hipath across national borders if you are installing a Hub & Spoke network as the system time is obtained centrally and there are no options for regional differences

3. If you are looking to install it as Hub & Spoke then the remote units are installed in the remote offices via an IP link however it only supports TDM phones and not IP

How many station, trunks and sites will you need ?

My choice would be a Avaya Definity, its not the cheapest kit on the market, but it scales and is very flexible. It supports IP trunks between sites, IP hardphones and softphones and conventional wired handsets.

Cheers

The Moogy

Siemens has new switches Hicom 3000, 4000, and 5000. I have not worked on these myself, but I understand that they are IP systems.

Just a note...the original ROLM (Now SiemensROLM) mail list is at
....scroll down and click on the link to the telecom mail lists at the bottom.
The original Nortel list is there as well....over 2000 Nortel users active and probably 1/2 that on ROLM....
The ROLM List supports all Siemens and ROLM boxes...including current and legacy switches as well
