Hello:
I use a Win98SE box and wonder what happens in Run/Msconfig/Startup if I uncheck:

1. TkBellExe (huh?)

2. LoadPower profile (entry occurs twice...should that be?)

3. load=

If I deselect these to simply startup, will I mess myself up?
Any rules of thumb for thinking about msconfig/startup stuff "management"?
Thanks

TKBELL.exe is a startup created by the REAL One Player.
You are better off without it!

LoadPowerProfile is for Windows Power Mgmt Properties which can be found at the bottom of the Screensaver tab in your Display Properties. (In an unoccupied space on the desktop - Right-click -> Properties)
Disabling this might actually improve things unless you are one of the people that fall asleep on their keyboards at night from working too much, and need the PC to turn off the monitor just to save a bit on electricity :)
It is normal for it to appear 2X (Run and RunServices)

Load=
which you probably saw in win.ini doesn't do anything unless an appname appears to the right of the "="

For future reference, here's a download list of most known startups created by all sorts of wares (168KB):

Hope this helps/

Thank you for highly lucid explanation.
