I repair Companion phones and have installed a UK sofware cartridge and a UK base station in my North American Norstar MICS system. Can anyone tell me why it won't boot up?
Thanks
I've checked my Excel sheet, and you have a Modular 0+32 Norstar system SP:30nDI15 DR6. This system version was the first 0+32 issue that was released. It also uses the DASS digital lines The software release is 8.15 & it was issued in Jan 1995.
Are you aware that UK power supplies uses 240 Volts?. I'm assuming that you have the cartridge inserted in your own Norstar CPU, running 110 Volts?.
I would have thought that it should still load up OK.
It is a 110 volt system although I don't see why this should make any difference. I have heard from another North American telecom business that they had the same problem when attempting to use UK software in their MICS.
I must admit that I find it very odd that you can't load up the software contained within the cartridge. I've got a American Norstar 6+16 cartridge, so I'll try next week to put it into my own test UK 6+16. I've got some pdf files if you want to contact me.
That is a good question. I was wondering if there were any switch type settings inside the CPU. I know that you should never take one apart, but there could be something inside that is specific to N/A or UK etc.
I normally work on the Nortel Option / Succession range of switch's. We are finding that customers are having their Companion systems taken out these days & some are now using the later DECT range, or some are going to a different supplier. The Companion range has been discontinued by Nortel for around 2 years now. My Company has a limited mntce supply of the 3050 phones. I don't think that it would be worth it trying to repair them over here.
Are there many Companion systems in N/A?.
