Note for everyone: I have read and re-read the related thread
thread940-1458772
and also the related FAQ

I have now an IPO SOE 4T 8A 3VCM which I tried to upgrade to the latest 4.2 release.
(now I Know that I must not do that, since this release is not supported on the most of soes)

I got these additional issues:

Hardware:
LAN ports without energy.
Note: I’m not telling that there is no ping
I’m saying that there is NO connection, every time I do it I get “network cable is unplugged” on any of the four ports.

That makes hard the task of creating bootp entry to be sent by LAN cable.

Software:
When I’m making the DTE usual procedure I got this.

AT
OK
AT-X
ERROR
AT-X2
ERROR

And

Small Office Edition Self test
--------------------------------
CARD_PRESENT_1 = 13
EXPANSION_TYPE = 20
PIPR = ff00ff00
PCMCIA = 0f
Number of BaseVcomps = 01
Number of Exp Vcomps = 00
PT expansion detected
POT Test Mode!

Got to go till 28800000mS, Been testing for 2081mS
HelloWorld on the SerialPort
Failed code=1027 Testnum=1000 (Serial Port)

Then system halts…

Other lines are the usual ones.

Questions.
Somebody knows whats happening?
Could I restore the bootp via serial port? How?

Take any cards out (PCMCIA and Trunk) and see what happens. Although, it sounds goosed.

4.2 is supported on SOE's without a problem. Who told you they weren't?

I can confirm that I have a SOE 4T 8A 3VCM with 4.2.11 working fine.

From what version did you upgrade ?
If you went from 3.x did you use the boot loader
If already 4.x did you do the offline upgrade ?

I think it is still out of software
Try rebooting a few times without pressing esc

And jamie77 is right, it is supported on a SOE
Where did you get that info from ?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions
About the 4.2 (4) on SOE, I may have to retract soon if I don’t find where I looked at it.

We dismantled the IPO, first we take off the small trunk card (2 CO), later, the internal daughter board 2T 4A (0VC), we were rebooting and the log showed the same.

We re assemble first the daughter board and reboot, and later the trunk card and reboot.

After retrying to do the erase, we got at least the response to AT-X2 and AT-X3 commands

AT-X2
Sector 2 Erase (NV Config)
OK

AT-X3
Sector 3-5 Erase (Config)
OK (3)
OK (4)
OK (5)

Later AT-X

AT-X
Multi-Sector Erase
................................................................................
........................
OK

Later the machine begins to show this repetitively

Programming FPGA ...
FPGA Version 89
Ethernet Switch: PortId=FFFF, PhyId1/2=FFFFFFFF
P6 Loader 1.3
CPU Revision 0x0502

Think that its asking for the new bootp.

But the four LAN (and even WAN) ports are still off
Any suggestions now.

Note:
Before the erasure, the systems showed 4.2 on DTE
History: it was upgraded from 4.0 (14)

pd Jamie, what do you mean with goosed?

Although, it sounds goosed.

I had it with the same SOE model, not others, but I make it run again on 4.1.

What I did:
I erased the CFG via AT-X2 then AT-X3 command
Uploaded via BootP the 3.2.999 firmware
Erased again the CFG via DTE
Loaded via BootP the 4.2.4

The system started to work, until I loaded a few kb config, it crashed again.
That's the reason why I suppose memory limits for that specific model only (I have many other SOEs 4A+8DS+3VCM running on 4.2).
To make it run I repeated the procedure again, but I loaded the 4.1.15, using the same CFG no crashes...

goosed=slang for broken!

I have had this happen to 2 of my SOE's (about 12 months apart & nothing to do with an upgrade)
they are broken & need repair.

yikes! seems its really broken.

because apart from any procedure, I got the ethernet ports gone off and no kind of response.

I had to fix it, because as you may suppose the box if out of warranty period.

hope that to be easy.

I algo think that if relase could be uploaded via DTE port (like cisco routers) it'd be nonsense since Network communication will not work anyway.

hibroth enlighten me to think its a memory fault. and that one has to tweak many times to make it work, of course if its not a physical failure.

Again thanks for the hints and support
