I have a client that we are about to install a 9.1 IPO with 150 IP sets. Threw a last minute curve ball at us asking for Lync Integration.
From what I can tell (since Avaya's docs are SO HELPFUL [evil] ) we need SIP Trunk licenses to go between the Lync Server and the Avaya PBX.
But do we need One-X USER licenses? Found some info about using the Avaya Lync Integration app, and needing One-X with User licenses for the application. Site is NOT using desktop apps currently, their just routing lync calls through the pbx for phone lines....so do we need One-X and USER licenses or just the SIP Trunk licenses?

Any help would be appreciated!

This is well documented but ok.

You do not need a SIP trunk, you do need One-X per user who wants to connect Lync.
You need to install the Lync plugin to connect the Lync client to One-X Portal per user.

The supported way is what Peter has mentioned above. However it isn't perfect and has some side effects which may not be desirable.

There is another way where you can SIP trunk between the Lync Server (on prem) and the IPO and use the IPO as the PSTN gateway. This isn't documented but there are many guides on the web which can help you get this working. But you will be on your own with this way.

I have used both.

Depends if you want to integrate Lync with IPO or just be able to dial external numbers from Lync.

If you want to integrate Lync with IPO you can read about it in "Administering Avaya Microsoft Lync Integration on IP Office™ Platform"

The second option will let you dial in and out from Lync, but requires license for Lync Enterprise Voice.
