We have never hooked up a true IP phone to our IP Office 4.1 system because after they are plugged in and go through setup the screen goes blank. The phone works both in/outbound but nothing on the display? I know this is old software but any help is appreciated.

you need to program the buttons with call appearance buttons, that is usually the reason for blanks, if there is nothing

4610SW phone. Will setup a button to see if it shows, thanks.

There are 5 buttons setup for that user, 2 of them are Appearance buttons.

Two possible reasons I have encountered in the past:
A firewall between IP Office and IP Phone
Wrong firmware on the IP Phone. must be 2.8.3 which can be found in the manager folder if you have manager 4.1 ( it shows as 6.1 )

intrigrant, thanks for the info. I have the administrators guide but cannot see how to either check the current firmware or just tell the Manager system to push it to the phone? This is the first time I have needed to do this and am a little lost.

In Manager open the config, in System add the IP Address of your PC as the tftp server.
In Manager check if the .bin file working directory points to "c:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager"
In Manager Menu>Preferences enable BOOTP/TFTP server
In the phone make sure that the ip addressing is as follows:
Phone IP Adress = 0.0.0.0 for DHCP or a fixed IP Address within the same subnet as the IP Office
MCIPADDR = IP Adrss of IP Office
Gateway = 0.0.0.0 for DHCP or the IP Office address for fix ip adressing
Netmask = 0.0.0.0 for DHCP or 255.255.255.0
Fileserver = IP Address IP Office
L2Q1 = On when VLANs are in use or Off when phone resides in default LAN
L2Q1ID = 0 when no VLANs are used or the VLAN number
VLANtest = 60 (default value)
To enter the IP Adres settings in the phone:
When in service (dialtone) press HOLD2338# (ADDR on the named buttons)
Or reboot the phone and press * when it is shown in the display
If it ask for a password is is either empty or CRAFT or set by a administrator in the past > if unknown youre lost
Then reboot phone and check in display if the phone loads 46xxupgrade.scr and 46xxsettings.txt, when it does it wil load the appropriate firmware.

This used to happen, dial the login code for that extn/user and it should come back, happens more often with the old VPN phones but seen it on a standard handset also :)

Ok, were getting closer. Before the initial IP sync would go through 6 time and timeout. Now it comes back TFTP Error "File Not Found".
Phone is set like this:
IP: 192.168.1.191 (on our lan)
CallSvr: 192.168.1.246 (IP of the Avaya box)
CallSvPort: 1719 (was already in the phone)
Router: 192.168.1.246 (IP of the Avaya box)
Mask: 255.255.255.0
FileSv: 192.168.1.246 (IP of the Avaya box)Should this be the Phone Mgr PC?
802.100=on
VLAN ID=0 (this is correct)

Do I have something wrong? I know the .scr and .txt files you mention above are in the default folder for .bin files.

In Manager there is a tool called "TFTP monitor" somewere ( haven't used that for ages ) there you can see what file is requested and check if it exists in the manager folder.

On other posts I'm reading that the FileSrv setting should be the Manager PC and not the Avaya box. If I change that setting to the Mgr PC I receive the TFTP Timeout again? I am searching for a "monitor" app but can find nothing about it online.

Intigrant is referring to navigating via:

View > TFTP Log once the configuration has been loaded in manager.

When targeting Manager as the file server, ensure that in manager preferences "Enable bootp and TFTP Servers" is enabled.

You would obviously need to verify all proper firmware files are present in manager directory.

Yes, the tftpsrv address should point to the manager address, recenter versions use the buid in SD card and then it is the IPO address.
It has been a while I did a version like this.
In Manager in menubar there you have "Tools">"TFTP viewer", use that to see tftp messages.

Ohh...please make sure the network you are on does not run SBS08 for their DHCP server as SBS08 will stop handing out DHCP addresses if it sees manager even thinking about bootp.

In Manager>Config Tree I have a "BOOTP" item that has a checkbox for Enable and that is the only place I can find where enable BootP or TFTP is mentioned. Am I just missing it?
Also, the server version is not an issue.

New info, making headway! The TFTP log shows that the 46xx .scr & .txt files were loaded to the phone but I still have a blank screen.

amriddle01 what login code, the password?
