IP Office System Status - "Trunk out of Service"

Hi - newbie here.

We recently installed an Avaya IP Office 500V2 controller at a customer site. They have 10 analog lines from the phone company. The customer has indicated that some phone calls are simply disconnecting. An inspection of the Alarms for the lines inside of the System Status utility shows 8 of the analog lines are reporting occurrences of "Trunk out of Service." What is the most likely culprit(s) for such an alarm being raised? Is it more likely this is an issue on the phone company's side or customer's?

That is not rare for an IPO. It is a combination of the LEC and the IPO. Strongly suggest switching to a PRI. It will save money and be more reliable.

Are you implying IPO does not work well with analog trunks? I ask, as others have implied IPO does not handle these well.

It does work and I install them all the time. But there are often weird issues like you have plus things like extremely long call setup time. This is because the IPO has a very tight window of tolerance for variations on the line. About all you can do is an impedance check to be sure here are no issues. Of course report the issue to your LEC. Have them do an end to end test of your trunks. If you are more than 10,000 feet from your CO then that is most likely your problem. 10 analog trunks from a LEC see costing you more than say a voice over T1. You could even keep the analog trunk boards and just go analog handoff over T1 and still save money.
 
IPO wors with Ananlog trunks but it was primarily designed arround ISDN service

as ISND is vastly superior to Analog lines & invariably cheaper at these capacities (+ ddi working often means analog lines can be replaced with fewer ISDN Circuits with no noticable loss of service) it maks sence to convert the customer to ISDN if at all possible.



Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear
