Hey guys, look like the IPO/Lync integration that worked great up until now will break if folks install the new update for Office 2013. Within the large update for Office 2013 is KB2889923 which moves Microsoft Lync to Microsoft Skype for business. The integration stays installed but our tests have shown that the lync client shows a changing state of connected/disconnected every second or so and makes the plugin unusable.

We are running the total update for Office 2013 and then uninstalling just this single KB for now (which brings it back to Lync client) until Avaya patches the broken integration. If anyone who has tested or finds the same issue could create a ticket/bug report that would be great.

Thanks!

As a side note - this is the case for customers running Office365. Have not had a chance to test with premise based yet.

P.S - The Microsoft work around for putting a mask on skype for business (URL linked below) is ONLY cosmetic. It still breaks the IP Office/Lync integration since the code structure is still updated when performing these tasks. The only way to get the integration back working is to uninstall all of the "Skype for business" related KB's that have been released.

Thanks for the update - frustrating when customers lose features they rely on!

But they have to talk to Microsoft
.. Good joke, I know... They installed Lync and get Skype after sind time along with incompatibility to used plug-ins...

I will agree that Microsoft could care less about their impact to customer solutions, but unfortunately it does make sense for Avaya to keep up on this integration. While Avaya has huge market share in voice they do not have that same lead in UC. Since Avaya sells a UC seat for every user that wants integration with Lync, they gain marketshare by tapping into that already deployed Lync base.

It has also been a huge advantage for organizations to invest in a well developed IPO voice product instead of the lagging platform that Lync voice is. With the same license they can get Mobile SIP client, communicator, and integration with Lync if that investment already exists.

Even though Microsoft (very likely on purpose) broke a large number of integrations, I do hope for existing and future customers that Avaya patches the integration.

Now who sold Skype to Microsoft?....

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Nah, that was above the belt [smile]

Kind regards

Gunnar

According to the Avaya PSN on this, after the upgrade you can select which interface to use (the new or the old) and the old one still works. That said the PSN also lists a number of problems and promises a service pack next month.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

From all of our testing the Avaya integration has the exact same issues even while using the Lync interface, you also have to use some powershell commands on each individual user to give them the ability to switch back and forth but that did not fix the issues our users have seen.

The Avaya integration toolbar at the bottom of the Lync client that gives the call button and such does not show up while the client is connected and goes through a constant state of connected/disconnected. Only while the disconnected error appears do you see the buttons but it is only for a flash.

Is this the PSN you are referring to?

That is the incorrect PSN...the software is not related to Communicator. It's Lync Integration for IP Office and not bundled with the Communicator software as far as I can tell.

Any results to share? I am using Skype for Business 2015 client and I noticed article/fixes from Avaya still reference Lync 2013. Eager to hear as I will get this on my IP Office if it fixes everything.

That update jhenhel posted isn't the fix. Its some fixes for 9.0 in a servicepack, some of them related to lync, nothing about skype for business.

IP Office Release 9.0 Service Pack 7 incorporates new software for:
......
Microsoft Lync Client Integration 6.3.1 build 72

3.10 Microsoft Lync Client Integration Software – Resolved field issues
The following field issues have been addressed in Microsoft Lync Client Integration
Software 6.3.1 build 72:
JIRA Number Description of Issue
IPOFFICE-80311 Lync Integration stops with "Server or connection to the server is down"
IPOFFICE-80391 Lync Add-In is unable to end the call
Global IP Office Technical Bulletin Number 179
COMPAS ID 169787 Issue 1 Page 8 of 13
IPOFFICE-81389 Unable to answer ringing call via Lync Add-In
IPOFFICE-80977 Lync Integration restarts when PC comes out of "Sleep” mode
IPOFFICE-80812 Lync Add-In does not attempt to re-connect if the one-X Portal service was restarted

Thank you for clarifying....I want to get the Skype 2015 client software integrated and working again with IP Office. Any word from Avaya?

I realize that try not to read the question literally, it means does anyone have information from Avaya or does anyone have updated information.

Was hoping the Lync patch would also work with the migrated Skype for Business but obviously did not. Still sitting on a broken solution if all updates patch in.

Greetings - I wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone has an update on this. I have a customer who is looking to do the exact same thing. They will have an Avaya IPO R9.1 preferred edition and bought 15 office worker licenses in hopes to integrate with Lync via Office365. They just moved to Office365 and added the latest Lync client which is "Skype for business" (Version 15.0.4727.1001).

Any insight or help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
