Hello,

I purchased a new DS8 card and inserted it into Slot 1. I booted the system back up and none of my other Digital phones worked after this, I had no dial tone and if I called out the part on the other end heard a loud screech. There were no phones plugged in to the new DS card, these were on the old one. I figured it was a bad card and I had it switched out. I put the new one in to Slot 1 and same result. Then I switched the VCM32 to Slot 1 and put the new DS8 in Slot 2 and again same result. I didn't have time to further troubleshoot.

Am I doing something wrong here? I was under the impression that the slot position didn't matter with the DS8 cards.

Thanks,
Eric

I normally start from left to right, first extension (Digital / Alog) and the VCM goes normally in Slot 4. But that just my logical thinking. Seen it different, but i never had saw before. You could try to remove all cards, power up read out the IPO and remove the cards. Then power it down push back in the cards and power it up.

It should work fine.
Did you perhaps bought a combocard?
Those do not work in an IP500, only in an IP500v2.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Added something to make it more clear.

You could try to remove all cards, power up read out the IPO and remove the cards thru the manager. Then power it down push back in the cards and power it up.

i saw this the other day, almost 100% identical.

System had been running with cards in slots 2 and 3 for about a month (not sure why it was done that way), i added a DS8 to slot 1 and got exactly the issue you described.

Removed the card and it's all fine.

Never got to the bottom of it, i just assumed it was the slot that borked, it worked fine in slot 4.

this was on a 500v2.

Even though it shouldn't matter, I do exactly as Bas does, extn cards go in slot 1 upwards (usually POTS first 406 style) and VCM with any line cards in slot 4, again just seems right to do it that way. And it avoids stray programming bugs Avaya are not aware of like the OP and TOM have :)

i usually go ds from left to right, then alog, then anything else, line cards from left to right. i didn't build the one i mentioned though.

Don't think the issue i had was programming as the card works fine in the other slot, seemed like a chassis issue to me.

Im the reverse - Trunk / VCM cards first, Then Dig, then Alog.... but hey....

you sure the unit was off before putting the card in? ;-)

That does not sound very convinced :)

Hello,

So I shut everything down last night, re-ordered the cards per the recommendations, tried a few configurations as noted above and kept getting the same result with this new DS8 card. With the new card out all is good. Is there something else I am missing?

Thanks,
Eric

I would take all cards out, default the system completely and then try again, if same issue it could be a faulty card :)
