We haven't had any issues with the 100 or so 9608s we've upgraded to 6.0 sp4.1. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but it looks like firmware 6.0 sp4.1 may finally be a good working firmware.

We were using 6.0.16S and had multiple phones either freeze completely or just the top line in the display would freeze. We went to 6.0.16T and now just one user can not change the screen width any more. We have tried to switch phones(same prob), log in to another phone on the same LSP(same prob), tried logging on to the phone using a different LSP and the problem was no longer happening, deleted user(same prob). Tried to delete the phone backup but do not have permission on the CMUtil in putty. Tried to download the .zip file and delete the BU then rezip and upload got "reports failed".
Any ideas?

I have 6.016T and the complaint I have heard so far is that a phone will sometimes ring without stopping. I have to reset the phone in ASA or someone has to unplug/plug back in to stop it.
I have seen some screen issues as well - Black Line at top, screen shifted down a line - To name one of them.

have noticed on 9611gs that on both sp4 and sp4.1 that the redial button sometimes cuts off #s. the key here is sometimes, its random. tried tweeking 46xxsettings but doenst make a diffrence

I have seen the phone have a problem where the softkeys showing during a call, are the ones that normally show when the phone is idle. Had to reboot the phone.

We are running CM5.2.1 and have over 200 of the 9611g phones spread out over 4 sites. We have an MPLS WAN infastructure in place with mega bandwidth. The 9611 phones are running 6.0 with SP4.1 and we are experiencing randon issues of the phone freezing up. I had it happen to me once while I'm on a call and I went to hit the conference button but my phone was frozzen. I had to reboot the phone. The more of these 9611g phones we install, the more complaints I'm getting.

Is anyone else experiencing the frozen phone syndrome on the 9611 or 9608 phones with R6 SP4.1?

Do we know if Avaya is aware of this issue still?

Thanks,

Do a list Reg and see if you have Product Release 6.016T. It is the latest version. 6.016S was the previous version and was buggy.

I am just deploying some IP phones. When I do a List Reg I show this:
6703 9640 IP_Phone 3.110 10.1.8.55 1 10.1.0.177 y
6710 9630 IP_Phone 3.110 10.1.3.84 1 10.1.0.177 y

Is my Product Release really out of date or is it just because of the phone is different then 96X1?

There are two classes of 96XX phone.
9620, 9630, 9640, 9650, 9670 use version 3.x of the H323 software.
9608, 9611, 9621, 9641 use version 6.x of the H322 software.
The phones in your example appear to be the older types, and not the 9611 you mentioned.

Perfect Thanks!

All my 9611g phones are version 6.016T SP4.1 and I'm still getting issues of frozen phones or rebooting phones.

Just a thought on the bad behavior you are seeing with 6.016T.
We had a site that was wired with CAT4 (yes I meant to type 4)
After moving to CAT 5E recently the feeling is that things are better. I am not recommending you recable, but you might see if you are taking lots of CRC errors on your switch ports.

Based on our reading and experices we think the phones do not tolerate network (errors, glitches, and hiccups) nicely.

I just wanted to add my .02 in. We just finished deploying our 9611G/9650 phones in a few sites and we're seeing issues ranging from quality in the sound to phones ringing for no reason to button disappearing. These phones are running 6.010f. We're testing 6.016T to see if this quiets down the user community but so far the impression has not been good. Has anyone seen issues running 6.016T for the 9611G?

16T is a lot better. 10f was a non starter.

We also got Avaya to adjust the default buffer size to 121ms. Sounds excessive but it did make a big difference.

dulfo666,

Thanks for the update on 6.016T. We did notice a slight delay on the display using 6.016T on 9611 when pressing buttons (maybe 1/2 second). Other than that, pretty solid. Please excuse my ignorance but how do you go about adjusting the default buffer size? Is that in the settings file?

Thanks.

Jeff

You need Avaya to make the change.

have customer on CM 3.1.5 (oldest release that Avaya says will support the 96xx phones) customer has 6.016T firmware loaded but still having issues with random ringing with no call on set. Customer has to unplug phone to stop the ringing. After reading the string above this is not just a local problem my customer is having the stations are built as either a 4610 or 4621 and both are having the random ring.

On the IP Office they freez up all the time.
No fake calls but only freezing up while you are on a call.
The call is still there but you cannot do anything else then talk.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Avaya has posted Service Pack 5 for the 96x1 H.323 on the Avaya Support website. This service pack fixes about 50 reported issues as well as many of the reboot and lock up issues that have been isolated.

If you are experiencing issues with the 96x1s, this load is highly recommended. If you are running problem free, there is no need to upgrade until you have issues and open a service ticket with Avaya (the first troubleshooting step is always to upgrade to the latest firmware).

You can review the readme file to see the problems that are corrected as well as the unresolved issues. Direct Link to Readme file is: https://support.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100148819"]

If you are experiencing issues with the 96x1 phones running the H.323 protocol that have not been resolved, you should upgrade.

Link to H.323 6.0 SP5 is: https://support.avaya.com/css/appmanager/css/support/Downloads/P0553/H.323%206.0.x/C201192684182900_1#summary"]

I have about 100 9621G phones at 2 locations that have lines running through all the screens...does anyone know if this is resolved by this upgrade or is it on Avaya's radar to fix?? Any updates would be appreciated. Thanks!
