There are quite a few people here who seem to have a very good memory, does anyone have any tips or exercises on improving it? Mine is absolutely terrible.

Not so much 'party trick' memory feats, but rather storing and recalling things, in our day to day lives.

I Just hope I remember to check the thread for replies. /wink

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

I remember everything, but not necessarily at the right time? What the heck do you call a problem like this?

You got me santa, I actually tried to search for that :-(

I guess it is something like lack of focus. I think my job is scrambling my brain. I can focus just fine, but nobody ever lets me!

Try the same process I am, when you think of a task or fact. Think when, why, how etc. It definitely helps.

That could help me stay on the topic for a while!

Like I said I have no trouble remembering things, its keeping them in the forefront that gives me problems. If I thought about all the finer details instead of moving on to the next step, that could be evry helpful!

Thanks Grenage!

Well, if the Karate Kid movies were right, then focus is definitely key. With the right amount of focus, a scrawny wimpy geek can learn enough of a martial art, and kick the snot out of a guy who's been studying it probably for years.

I've a somewhat similar problem. My mind seems to link new information to existing information, which does make my memory very good. Another thing my mind does through this linking is filling in blanks, i.e. creating relationships between snippets of information that I hadn't known before. Also great, it has helped me solve a lot of programmatical issues among other things. The problem comes however, when I try to remember something, I seem to pull up a whole lot of other info as well and then start linking away and before I know it I'm trying to explain the Universe and an hour or so has passed. You can really fire a gun next to my head when I get like that, I won't notice it.

Cheers,

Roel

We can't do anything to avoid losing information in our memory, because growing old is inevitable.
Being forgetful is one of the two signs you're growing old. Now, I forgot what the other sign is.

Just don't smoke too much weed. A few years ago I started training at a new job and used to puff on the stuff almost every night. It sure made training difficult.
