I dunno.
I know my spelling and grammar is somewhat short of perfect, but at least I do try to improve when certain shortcomings are pointed out to me.

So how is it that a professionally made sign located in a public toilet sported the legend:
"Please wash your hand's"?

That would be a sacking offence in my book - surely if you employ a person to produce possibly thousands of signs like this, you'd expect them to not fall for that basic punctuation error?

I see other examples where I shouldn't, for example in news papers and leaflets.

Regards, Andy.

Here is a good question...

Would you wash your hands if you were in Japan today?

Three English public schoolboys happened to meet in a public wash room. As they stepped away from the urinals, two washed their hands and the third didn't.
First hand washer - "At Winchester we were taught to wash our hands after urinating"
Second hand washer - "At Harrow we were also taught to wash our hands after urinating"
Third ((non hand washer) - "At Eton they taught us not to p*ss on our fingers"

As an elderly gent steam engine enthusiast I always carry a clean pair of disposable gloves when we are driving around the countryside - you can't always find somewhere to wash your hands when you get taken short!

Wouldn't that be Whyn't?

Just my 2¢

Ahh... but there usually needs to be emphasis on the 'not' part, as in,
"You din't buy any milk? Why NOT??!"

Maybe that's why we don't see that particular contraction?

Perhaps, but almost all contractions involve a verb.

Yeah, but don't want to leave anything out in those contractions.
