I can no longer login to the Unified Manager, and my local reseller (who also has our maintenance contract) has not been able to solve the issue.

I'm on version 3.0 (don't ask I'm really pissed at Nortel)
We can't backup the system due to bugs in the 3.0 software, Nortel won't help us because they say we decided not to upgrade(Actually we didn't even know about the upgrade until this problem appeared)

When I try to login to the Unified Manager I get the following error "[Connection Failed] Failed to Connect to BCM Server"

In the information bar at he bottom of the Window I see the following message: AutomationException:0x80080005 - Server Execution failed.

The only things we've changed on the BCM recently were we Turned on the firewall for LAN1 and restricted it to ports 7000-9000 in order to allow IPSoftphones through that Network connection. The rule was setup manually because the defaul rule for this kept turning it's self off when we selected it! We also turned of the Web cache as we don't use the BCM as a proxy server for our internet connection.

Currently the only way I can connect to it is through Telnet. I can still however use the call pilot manager
backing up the system doesn't work as when I try to setup a Network mapped Drive ( through the GUI) the BCM locks out the account and can't connect.

Help!

I need to access my unified Manager and backup the system! My vender says the only way to resolve the problem is to completely reprogram the BCM and loose all my current settings and voicemail

Don't blame Nortel, your Vendor should have got you to upgrade as they were free to upgrade to 3.6. I've done all 60 of mine.

Acewarlock,

Is there any documentation on the "free" Upgrade to ver 3.6? My vendor is quoting me $800 to go to 3.7. Is there any significant differenece between 3.6 and 3.7?

I don't see any difference between 3.6 and 3.7 that I need, plus there is a charge too go to 3.7. I think you need a new Vendor. The upgrades from 3.0 to 3.6 was free and it takes about 2 hr's tops. I've seen the upgrades on Ebay in the last few days and they were $9.99. I'll look and see if there still there and I'll post back if they are.

geat info, thanx. I'll have to have a "chat" with my vendor and see why this was not offered as an option. I'm in a spending freeze and he knows it!

Our vendor IBM sent us about 45 or so Free upgrade kits. some of our system were at 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 the rest of them were bough at 3.6. I haven't had any problems with the 3.6 and I have installed all the patchs as they come out. I have heard the upgrade to 3.7 is $400 but I have a 3.7 image that I could use to make all mine 3.7 but there seems to be more problmes with 3.7. Were not going to upgrade to 4.0 unless we are forced to in the future.

My vendor is telling me that Nortel no longer supports v3.6 and is pushing everyone to v4.0 I'm currently pushing back with the no cost option ( v3.6)

You really need a new Vendor as Nortel still supports 3.6. There still putting out patches for it.

Is your Vendor a Nortel Partner or just someone that works on BCM's? If he just works on them he can't get the free upgrades unless he knows someone that is a Partner.

oh been there done that, BCM has been rebooted several times, We've been in through telnet to try and turn the Firewall off, if it's that. No go

Called Nortel and the official word from them in anything below 3.7 is not supported. and 3.7 is only supported until next may. And on Top of that they will not distribute anything below 4.0. According to Nortel. You HAVE to purchase 4.0 if you want to upgrade to from (in my case) 3.0 to anything! talk about a rip off! If 3.6 is a free upgrade. I'd think I should be able to download it from their support site or something. Anyway I've pushed it back at my vendor.

We'll see what happens next!

Thanx for all your help.

The upgrade wasn't on there web site as far as I know, my vendor gave me CD's with the Keycodes.

I just went to the nortel.com web site and typed bcm 3.6 at the search bar at the top and it btough me to a page with patches fot the 3.6. If Nortel no longer supports this product what is this page.

3.6 is still supported. N-2 is the "official" Nortel support strategy.

If you turned on firewall filters on LAN 1, and didn't allow all the stuff for the UM to work, you're out of luck on that interface. Try connecting to the LAN 2 address. If that doesn't work either, connect an analog line to the modem port and dial in - use the IP of 10.10.14.1, and you should be able to connect as the modem connection won't be firewalled.

I did the same thing the first time I played with the firewall filters - locked myself out of most everything. That's when I decided that phone systems really shouldn't be firewalls....

How to I "dail in" to the BCM with that IP? Sounds stupid but I've never tried something line that.

Initially I setup the Firewall rule only on Lan1. I think it applied the same rule to both interfaces!

On your PC
Start
Settings
netwrk connections
PPP Connection
9600,8,n,1

After you Setup a new network connection with the phone number to the BCM, when it answers. Start a IE Browser and put in the IP address of the BCM 10.10.11.1

I must be thick. I have no option for PPP Connection. I can set a standard dialup (which I what I think you are trying to say). But I still don't see anywhere to setup the 9600,8,n,1 or how exactly you dial an IP address. What do I do with the userid/password fields

Build a new dialup networking connection, same as if you are dialing into a RAS server on your company LAN. Use the ee_admin account and appropriate password to authenticate. Once connected, enter 10.10.14.1 as the IP to connect to in your browser.

As far as the speed goes, I'd leave it at 57600 or whatever the default is. You'll want as much speed as possible....
