For pure imagination, I might nominate the U.K. show, "UFO" and its spinoff "Space: 1999".

And on the topic of Supermarionation, there was a 70s U.K.-produced Supermarionation show about a kid who could take on the "brain patterns" of others for a short period of time. It was named "Johnny 90" or something like that. Does anyone remember the show?

Greg, I'll point out I watched Star Trek on NBC in it's original run and let you draw your own conclusions about my age and see if you are still smitten!

Still smitten... I was born the year that Star Trek did it's original run. What, you don't like younger guys? ;)

(I'm just funnin' ya.... you are great though.) :)

I have no problem with younger guys although I suppose my boyfriend might have a problem with it.

Thanks for the nice compliment and I return it to you - you are also great.

Ah, yes, James, "Jonny Quest" was one of my favourites, as well, along with Jonny's father, Dr. Benton Quest, Jonny's bodyguard, tutor, and trusted friend, Race Bannon, loyal bulldog, Bandit, and Jonny's highly talented friend and near-adopted brother, East Indian orphan, Hadji.

Good ol' days (when you were lucky if your TV could bring in three channels).

Call me ignorant (hell, everyone else does), but isn't [blue] Supermarionation[/blue] a cooking show?

Like that old show, In the Heat of the Night? or [gray] "Home on the Range"[/gray] or [gray] "Little House on the Puree"[/gray]?

BTW - "The Andy Grip It Show" wasn't a sitcom in the traditional sense.

I'd forgotten about the British series "UFO". That was a pretty good one. The "Space 1999" spinoff wasn't nearly as interesting, but I watched it anyway. I'll watch almost anything SciFi. "Johnny Quest" was always one of my favorites.

How about the old series with Roy Thinnes, "The Invaders". I still have an unbuilt model kit of the invaders saucer.

And then there is the inscrutable British series "The Prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan (who was also the star of "Secret Agent").

Well, according to Wikipedia, Star Trek (and all of it's spin-offs) had 726 episodes.

Keeping in mind, that's TOS (only ran for 3 years), TNG, Voyager, the animated series, DS9, and Enterprise.

Doctor who ran for 26 consecutive years (and that was all "Doctor Who"... not "Doctor Who, Son of Doctor Who, Doctor Who's Lost Cousin, etc." then it was revived with a TV Movie in 1996, and new episodes in 2005.

Several of the episodes were multi-parters (such as the key to time series) that had 4 half-hour segments to make one episode. So, I don't know if you want to compare that to one half-hour star trek episode, or if that should count as four.

But, according to the IMDB, Doctor Who had 679 25-minute episodes, 41 45-minute episodes, and 1 60-minute episode.

That makes Doctor Who at 721 episodes, compared to Trek's 726... except for 2 things... that 726 from Star Trek is the COMBINED trek universe and spin-offs. And Doctor Who is (to my knowledge) still in production. :)

So... in a sense, we're both right.

and Jonny's highly talented friend and near-adopted brother, East Indian orphan, Hadji.
Although I've always enjoyed "Jonny Quest", too, there's one thing I never understood about the character Hadji. If he's supposed to have all these Hindu fakir mystical powers, how come he has a Muslim name?

Additional real geek info on Space 1999. Before this series, any FILM made that included a shot of a TV showed severe flicker, or a rolling dark bar on the TV due to the difference in timing between camera shutter and TV frame. The extensive use of TV monitors in a filmed series was made possible by (loud fanfare ) ME! In the dark days of the sixties we had to arrange for the film camera with its 3-phase motor to sync to TV frame rate and then set the relative phase so that the 'black bar' was hidden in TV frame sync (with just a smidgen showing top and bottom). I was also fortunate to work on many of the electronic SFX shown on the screens, and on the META music.

Oh happy days of youth!

Ug... you know it was a bad year for Sci-Fi movies when Serenity wins for best long form... It was decent if you were a firefly fan (or like me had at least seen the show hoping it would be good in those post B5 days) but for anyone walking in cold, the movie would have made very little sense. Serenity, at best, should have been a TV Movie.
