If I'm not mistaken, Dr. Who is the longest in-production science fiction series *EVER*. Last I heard, it was something like 26 or 27 years in production. (Granted, that's off-and-on, but still, that's pretty amazing).

I think star-trek has 28 seasons and more then a thousand episodes. I could look it up, but then you could too.

Yes, the second series of the new Doctor Who. You can really call it the 2nd season of the 2nd series because the old Doctor Who ran for years and had dozens of series/seasons. It is David Tennant.

As I understand the nomenclature, "Doctor Who" was a BBC-produced episodic television show that ran as an uninterrupted series of broadcasts for 26 years from 1963 to 1989. Those 26 years would have spanned multiple television seasons and multiple show stories.

After a 6- or 7-year hiatus, the BBC revived the show as a new broadcast series that has apparently run two 13-episode television seasons over two years, one with Christopher Eccleston playing the Doctor, and one with David Tennant in that role. The first season (with Eccleston) has been broadcast in the U.S. on the Science Ficition Channel. The second season should begin showing in the U.S. on the Sci Fi Channel September 29th.

I think it's a problem of terminology. You probably call a continuous run of shows a "season". In the UK, we call it a "series".

Do you mean the episodes produced in fairly quick succession and broadcast on regular intervals? Like the set of 13 episodes that had, for example, Christophe Eccleston as the Doctor? Yeah, that'd be a season.

MTV's the Real World--after all, being a college student, living with a bunch of hot girls, right on the beach instead of living in a crappy studio apartment and having to skip buying books one semester so you can make the tuition and still put gas in the Festiva... that is Science Fiction to me. ;-)

I always liked Land of the Lost, and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.
But that was 30 years ago

Not that I would remember... <cough> But it was "Sigmund THE Sea Monster." ;)

While I agree with many of you, here's one that was probably before most you were even born: FIREBALL XL5

James,

Wasn't Fireball XL5 the one with puppets as the "players"? Sorry, I just couldn't get into puppets trying to do science fiction.

Speaking of puppets...does MST3K count as SciFi?

Andromeda had a couple of good seasons and then went downhill.

Enterprise was always gloomy and some episodes were weak, the very last episode was a disgrace.

The new Dr Who is still impressive, one or two duds but also some brilliant innovations.

Chrissy you knew what I would say to that already. SF geek that I am, Dragon Con here I come in one more week. Then the Firefly fans will have a whole floor of the hotel to party in. Fun, fun, fun.

Hey! They were not puppets but Supermarionation marionettes. ;-) Besides, between XL5 and Johnny Quest, they were my introduction to Science Fiction.
