Hi:

I have a controller 3300 Mxe and sip trunk with a Linksys SPA8000, I was followed the instructions on document 08-5159-00036, and when I connect in any port of linksys an analog extension is perfect, but when I connect in this port a Fax machine dont work.....not send, and not receive....
could you helpme??

Thanks

Your best bet with FoIP is to use a device capable of T.38

That said, I believe Mitel is still okay with G.711 passthrough. Make sure both ends are NOT set to use compression (G.729) for the media stream. Not sure where this would be on the LinkSys, but the Mitel should have the SIP peer in the same Zone as the 3300 and intrazone compression turned off. Also make sure QoS is configured, passthrough mode works but is VERY sensitive to packet loss/delay/jitter.

what ports on the spa 800 were you using ?
I think 2 are specifically designed for fax

This was the Part from the SPA Admin guide that I was referring to regarding Faxing.
T.38 Fax is only supported on the SPA2102 and the SPA8000. The SPA2102 supports a single connection, while the SPA8000 supports one connection for each pair of ports (1/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8) for a maximum of four connections.

To optimize fax completion rates, complete the following steps
Step 1 Upgrade the ATA firmware to the latest version
Step 2 Ensure that you have enough bandwidth for uplink and downlink.
• For G.711 fallback, it is recommend to have ~100Kbps.
• For T.38, allocate at least 50 kbps.
Step 3 To optimize G.711 fallback fax completion rates, use the following settings on the Line tab of the
Linksys ATA:
• Network Jitter Buffer: very high
• Jitter buffer adjustment: disable
• Call Waiting: no
• 3 Way Calling: no
• Echo Canceller: no
• Silence suppression: no
• Preferred Codec: G.711
• Use pref. codec only: yes
Step 4 If you are using a Cisco media gateway for PSTN termination, disable T.38 (fax relay) and enable fax
using modem passthrough.
Step 5 Enable T.38 fax on the SPA 2102 by configuring the following parameter on the Line tab for the FXS
port to which the FAX machine is connected:
FAX_Passthru_Method: ReINVITE
Note If a T.38 call cannot be set-up, then the call should automatically revert to G.711 fallback.

I was able to get one of the lower models (spa2102 I believe) working a while back with no special settings. Make sure the fax machine is not a brother fax machine using the the super g protocol. Also, make sure the baud rate on the fax is set to 14.4 or below. Does the fax work on one of the fxs ports on the system?

Hi Sescort,

Apologies for reopening this but I have tried to find that document you mentioned 08-5159-00036 on MOL and cannot find it anywhere, do you still have a copy?

Thanks
