I've already mentioned finding teachers forum and posting a question about "non-fictional reading for a 5th grader"

I was so amazed yesterday to find an answer of this sort:
"I am sorry I can not help you because I am teaching older grades" - I found that very funny for few reasons and decided to share because I see it may unfold into more then one subject thread.

CrystalStart - Have you looked into the following site:

I hope everyone who "cannot help you because they teach older grades" do not find it helpful to tell you that.

CC, THANKS a billion for that link.

Dj,
Exactly my point, there were 17 views and 2 responses - one of which gave me a weblink to a site. Imagine if all 16 others told me about their reasons they can't help me.
Imagine everyone on Tek-Tips are doing it :-D
And the hmm-hmm part - that person is a teacher!

Possibly an effect of "Government Schools" and overspecialization.

Ed. Can you elucidate for the benefit of those of us who aren't conversant with the term 'Government Schools'(I'm assuming this is in a US context?) and what the 'effect' of them is. I ask because in the UK they're called 'State Schools' and the vast majority of the population attend one at one time or another and as far as I know they're among the best in the world, with loudly trumpeted exceptions, of course.

If I might ask, let's not get into a discussion of government/state/public schools in this forum.

I think this would make for a great discussion, but there are other forums better suited for that topic.

Thanks.

Good Luck
