Hello, I have a customer that has decided to disable auto attendant in order to ring a group and then COVER to ext. 10 voice mail box. I would really appreciate some help with confirming these steps as I am not totally fimiliar with partner... Touch Tone Tommy was a great help in my previous thread (
Disable AA:
#206-7-LL-2 (for lines 01 - 08)

Cover to EXT 10 Voice Mail:
#207-LL-10 (for lines 01 - 08)

Now for the difficult part - or part that I don't fully understand:

I need to set up a "phantom" extension and RCF it to a single toll free number. I understand this is necessary and may be the only way for the users in the ring group to transfer the call off premise (by transfering the call the the phantom RCF extension)

1.) I need to know how to create the new phantom extension.

2.) I need to know how to RCF that extension to an off premise number 91800-xxx-xxxx

3.) I would also like to know if I can assign a button on the phone the users can press which will automatically transfer the call to the phantom ext (similar to a transfer button, but include the phantom extension in the dialed string so all then need to do is press the button to send the call???)

Any help is appreciated !!!

Thanks,

Mike

Use one of your physical extensions on the phone system, that doesn't have a phone plugged into it.

Allow it RCF with #322-XX-1

Plug a phone into the extension port on the control unit.

Program the outside number into one of the Personal Speed Dials of the extension. Feature 00-Feature 99-Telephone Number (include the 1 and area code if that is how you dial the number to reach it). Feature 00 to exit

Forward the extension, Feature 11-Extension Number-99

Test it by going to another phone, dialing Intercom and the extension number. You should see a line go off hook, and you should reach the outside number. Test again by calling in from your cell phone, answering yourself on an extension, and then pressing Transfer and the extension number of the forwarded phone. Again, you should see another line go off hook, and you should be connected to the outside number.

Put an inside auto dial button to the forwarded extension on the other phones, Feature 00, button , Left Intercom, extension number, Feature 00. While live on a call, press the auto intercom button and hang up to transfer the call.

Very excellent and quick response!

The only other question that I have is relating to :

---Use one of your physical extensions on the phone system, that doesn't have a phone plugged into it---

Is there an easy way to determine what extensions are assigned / not being used? (say for ext. 25 could I just dial intercom 25 from any phone to confirm it is not in use?)

In G3si land where I am from you would list unused extensions and assign a specific port ex. 01a0101 to a specific extension.

Would it be as easy as picking a port on the front of one of the blades on the phone system that doesn't currently have an rj-11 plugged into it? I am thinking I could plug a phone into an unused port and call x10 and see what the calling number is.

My worry is that there may not be an unused port, or all "configured" extensions may be in use. so I would temporarily take a physical extension off line to program the phantom one...?

Get up and go look at the control unit. See if there is an extension port that doesn't have a connecting cord plugged into it. Figure out the extension number if it isn't clearly marked. Call that extension number to make sure the it doesn't have a voicemail box associated with it. Thats the one that you use.

You could use ANY extension number from 10 through 57, as that's the dial plan for a Partner ACS. If you use an extension number that doesn't physically exist, you will loose the forwarding after a power failure. Since you are not using it for after-hours emergency service, that's probably not a worry, so you just do the speed dial programming through Centralized Telephone Programming, and set the forwarding from Ext. 10.

Ok, Thanks much Tommy - this makes total sense. I will check for a port that is open or isn't punched down on anything.

I hear what you're saying that there are 47 total extensions to choose from, but just to clarify - only about half of those would have physical ports correct? (with physical desk phones). I wont have access to actually see this system until Tuesday morning, but I am pretty sure there aren't 47 available ports on the switch, so I may have 20 extension ports to work with. If one of those 20 ports has no cord plugged in / no labeling whatsoever, how would I go in and assign a valid unused extension to that port?

clarification #2:
By a phone extension that "doesn't physically exist" do you mean an ext. 10 - 57 that is created in the system but isn't physically plugged into an extension port? If this is the case, could if I left a RCF phone plugged in tucked away somewhere would the system retain the RCF number in the event of power loss? (would like to avoid having to go back to this place to reprogramm the phantom ext. if possible)

Thanks again for your expertise in this.

Mike

I am scheduled to go to this site Tuesday morning so I will post back with the result!

BTW, i am looking at page 21 of:

and I am guessing the blades on this have 12 extension each. and with a 5 slot carrier that may actually allow for the total number of extension ports available... However I'm sure you knew that already...

You can have up to 48 extensions on a Partner system. The combination of processor, 206, 308, 012, 200, 400 and voice mail modules provide and consume the actual extension ports. So it really depends on what you have in your carrier.

You don't have to assign anything to make an extension port work. It is automatic, and its extension number depends on where it is located on the module, where the module is located in the carrier, and what other modules are installed in front of it.

"an extension that doesn't physically exist" - Let's say you have an ACS, R8 in the center slot, and a 308 in slot 1. The ACS is Ext. 10 through 18, and the 308 is Ext. 19 through 26. Those are your physical extension ports. Now let's say that Mr. Smith is an outside salesman, doesn't have a desk at the office, but needs a way to receive voicemail messages. Pull a number out of your hat, between 27 and 57, and make it his "extension". Give it Auto VMS coverage and a mailbox, and you can transfer callers to it. He can call in and check the messages while on the road. When he visits the office, Mr. Smith can sit down at any phone to log in and check messages. Now, let's say that rather than receive voicmail messages, he would really like callers to reach him on his cell phone. Remove the VMS coverage, but give his "extension" RCF capability. Go over to Ext. 10, and through Centralized Telephone Programming, put his cell phone number in Personal Speed Dial slot number 99. Then from Ext. 10, forward his "extension" to speed dial 99. Voila', calls transferred to his extension number forward to his cell phone. BUT, comes a power failure, the forwarding is turned off when the juice comes back on.

Burn a physical extension port, do all the same programming, put a piece of tape over the port so someone doesn't use it in the future, and the forwarding comes back on after a power failure.

Tommy are you there?

everything seems to work however -

when I try to forward the extension to the personal speed dial 99 I am getting:

f11 - Forward:

I enter the extension 41

then I hit 9 (for speed dial 99) - as soon as I hit 9 the system closes the prompt???

Another note:

When I try to enable RCF from ext. 10 the system will not allow me to enter #322 in system program.

I can enter #32 -but as soon as I hit the second 2 the system beeps back at me...

am I missing something?

looks likt this system is an R5... Is that why?

one card says 103G13(28) R5

The rest say R3...

I am guessing RCF #322 is not an option?

Yup, RCF is available on R6, 7, and 8. Press Feature 59 to find out what you are dealing with.
