Just curious if some of the services like dial 9 (CO access code) or the star codes would be supported. I installed a phone system a few years ago and the plan was to use centrex services with the PRI and it turned out the phone system's software stack (as we were told) did not support centrex services over PRI.
I have never heard of a telco offering centrex services over a PRI trunk, at least not in the US. The basic premise behind centrex is to use the CO as your PBX, and have "stations" at the end user's prem. Indeed, many tariffs prohibit connecting a centrex line to a PBX (although these tariffs are largely ignored).
I understand Centrex...just curious about centrex and PRI with IPO. I work for a telco and we have had a centrex PRI on our current phone system for many years.
I guess the best answer is that you can make the IPO send any digits out any trunk that you'd like as it is HIGHLY customizable. So, for example, you can certainly send *72 for call forward variable out a PRI, so long as the CO knows what to do from there.
While Centrex is really an analogue trunk feature, similar functions for ISDN do exist. If you dig around the IP Office short codes you'll find a set of Q.931 features that put calls on hold etc. at the ISDN exchange rather than on the IP Office.
Similarly, in the E1 PRI trunk settings you'll find settings for Partial Rerouting (essentially the ISDN equivalent of a Centrex transfer).
Some of those may match the features your ISDN provider is offering to support. As said, for a lot else, the IP Office is very flexible at dialing out whatever digits and information is required so reading the list of short code special characters is well advised.
