Afternoon, we have a very old Partner phone system that's been working well. We had a power outage and lost all of the programming on the phone system. I was able to go in to make system changes (date, time, etc) but since the outage, we haven't been able to use the intercom system (via *71). Research showed that it needs to be set #617, but when I enter that in the program mode, I get an error tone. When I try to scroll to that option, it does not show. I am able to page direct lines, but not *71 (all lines). Any suggestions?

*71 is the code to page calling group 1. You need to assign the extensions there.

#502-1-XX-1 where #502 is calling group, 1 is the calling group number, XX is the extension number, and the last 1 is to assign the extension as a member of the group

Not to completely out myself as a newbie, but does the - indicate right intercom button? When I get to #502, then enter 1 for the calling group, what do I hit next? After "1" when I start to type in the extension number, it assumes I'm entering a different calling group.

Sorry to be so novice.

At Ext. 10, press Feature and dial 00, then press the Left Hand Intercom button Twice

Dial #502

When you dial #502 you see:
Calling Group
Group:

Press 1 and you see:
Calling Group 1
Extension:

Dial 10 for Ext. 10 and you see:
Calling Group 1 10
2 Not Assigned

Press 1 to assign Ext. 10 to Calling Group 1 and you see:
Calling Group 1 10
1 Assigned

Now start over at #502 for the next extension and continue until you've done all extensions from 10 through whatever the highest extension number is

Oddly, when I go through your steps, I get different prompts:

When I dial #502 you see:
Calling Group
Extension:

I can't simply dial "1", if i dial "1" a second time it inputs it as extension "11" which says:

Calling Group 11
1 Assigned

It's like it doesn't allow for different groups? But, if that were the case, the Intercom *71 should page all, no?

Do me a favor, pick up an outside line, then press Feature and dial #1. You will hear a series of touch tone beeps. Count the number of beeps, and if there is a pattern, such as 2 beeps, pause, 3 beeps. This will tell us what version of Partner you have. It may be really old, or a Basic Partner, without a lot of the options. Then we can steer you in the right direction

You might try *70. That was the default all page in the older systems.

Dermis and feline can be divorced by manifold methods.*
*(Disclaimer for all advise given)--'Version Dependent'

When I pick up a line and dial feature + # + 1, it beeps 5 times and says "sorry, call cannot be made as dialed"

Budbyrd, when I try intercom + *70, it does the rapid tone (like a police siren).

The oddest thing, is that *71 has worked for 15 years, and with the latest power outage it seems to have been reset (along with date/time, etc—which I've corrected).

5 beeps without a pause is invalid. Perhaps it was some beeps, a pause, and some more beeps to total 5? The recording "sorry, your call can not be completed as dialed" is from the phone company, because you're dialing a series of the digit 1. Try calling your cell phone, and now that the line is connected and clear, do the Feature #1

Partner Basic does not have calling groups, so that's out.
Partner Plus R1, R2, and R3, and Partner II R1, R2, and R3 do not have the 4 calling groups, only 1 is available, so that's probably what you're dealing with.

Beep codes for these systems are:

2 beeps = Partner Plus R1
4 beeps = Partner Plus R2
2 beeps, pause, 4 beeps = Partner Plus R3.0
2 beeps, pause, 2 beeps, pause, 1 beep = Partner II R1
2 beeps, pause, 2 beeps = Partner II R2
3 beeps, pause, 1 beep = Partner II R3.0

In this case, dial #502, then the extension number, then 1 to assign to the group.
Intercom *71 will page the group

*70 is Simultaneous Page, which pages all of the phones in Calling Group 1 AND the loudspeaker page port.
It was introduced on Partner II R4.0, and all of the ACS line. Not available on any release of Partner Plus

Suggestion, get rid of the old Partner processor and buy an ACS R6.0 or higher. They have changeable batteries, unlike the older R1 through R4.1 processors. You'll thank me.

ToneToneTommy,

Thank you! It turned out it was a Partner Plus R2 and your instructions worked perfectly. Thank you!

Regarding retiredtelco, is it worth upgrading to an ACS R6.0? This is the only time we've had this issue in the past 20 years.

Next time you have a power failure, you're going to be back in the same situation. The nicad batteries that are soldered to the circuit board of the processor are no longer charging, that's why you lost your programming.

The batteries are not hard to replace, but you need soldering skills to do it. The ACS has replaceable AAA batteries. But remember that all Partners are manufacture discontinued, so it may be time to think about replacing with something currently supported.
