After a failed hard drive, I install XP home up to SP3. The problem is that the sound card does not work. It is on the MOBO, its a sis7012 PCI sound card. I downloaded the drives from sis and Realtek AC97. I get a code 28 error. The computer is from Milwaukee PC. I installed, uninstalled drivers, on the sis 7012, I get a setup screen then an error. I have run out of ideas.

Thank you.

Go to the device manager, see if you can find the sound card, delete it and do a scan for new hardware, if prompted tell it to go online to find drivers, failing that your device 'should' get the drivers from the driver cache automatically.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

I tried that and had it look for drivers and I also picked the drivers myself. It looks like it will work and then I get the code 28 error. From what I found out, it has to do with the SP3 upgrade. When I try to install with the sis 7012 program I get an installation error (I don't have the error number handy), that's when I tried the AC97 drivers and trying to install the drivers manually.

Thanks

I had the same problem with AC97 sound device. I finally did a search on the internet for realtek ac97 and SP3 and find a forum where someone had a driver for the realtek AC97 and SP3. That solved that problem. I was thankful someone had some drivers for SP3.
