9608 Phone Firmware 2

I installed some 9608 phones last year before they stopped selling them. Luckily they had few problems.

The IPO is on R6.1. What version of firmware should I upgrade to phones to?

Am I going to have move the whole thing to 8.0 to get a stable system?

R38 is the latest GA firmware. Official support comes in the 8.0 Q2 release from what I heard. I've had decent luck with R38 which IDs as 6.1380 in SSA.
 
There will be new firmware and it is in trial at the moment.
And to give you hope, it works very nice.
I did not have any 9608 getting frozen anymore.

Peter, am I correct to assume that the new firmware/Q2 maintenance release will bring support for the 9611 also?
 
It should be Q1 and yes i think they will support the 9611.

Will the 9608 sets do LLDP and or DHCP with the new firmware?

I've recently had problems with 9608 screen
freezing.

Disabling LLDP on the switchports fixed the issue for me!!

No more reboots, no more crashes.
 
Denny, that's issue avoidance not fixing though, next release 8.0 and 8.1 should sort it out :)

 
to give you even more hope,im in agreement with tlpeter, i do not have frozen screens anymore,
also ive no issues with my 9611

Hi,

I am having issue with 9609 i am running IPO 500 software R7

phone boots up fine and takes about 5-10 min to get to login screen then when i enter ext. and password it freezes at login and reboots after 5 min.

it's been doing like this for like 2 hours i tried like 4 unit they are all acting like that.

any idea how to fix this.

Those handsets are not supported on any current IP Office release at the moment due to issue such as this, they placed them on sales hold until they can make a firmware that works properly, when they do it will be a Release 8/8.1 build though, not R7 I would think :)

 
7.0 has the same files as 8.0 so yes 7.0 will support them too with the next release.

How do you know this? A new 9608 firmware wouldnt 'just' work with 7.0 software just because the old one does?

 
I know because i do the trials and we have about 20 odd 9608 in our company running the new firmware.
I also have the 7.0 trial software on my laptop and it has the same files for the 96x1 phones.

Or there will be a new patch ?

For me it stopped the freezing.
Once in a while it is a little bit slow but it always dials the numbers.

The new 9600 Series IP Deskphones - the 9608, 9611G, 9621G and 9641G models - require Avaya one-X® Deskphone H.323 6.2 software.
Avaya one-X® Deskphone H.323 Release 6.2 is supported on the 9608, 9611G, 9621G and 9641G IP Deskphones only and when used with Avaya Aura® Communications Manager. It will not load or operate on any other models. It is also not supported at this time when these models are used with Avaya IP Office or Avaya Branch Gateway B5800. Support for Avaya IP Office and Avaya Branch Gateway B5800 is pending in the calendar second quarter of 2012.
 
I know, i saw it too.
But it is in the next maintenance release.
I think this will be at the end of this month.
