I'm asking because I've got Call Reroute 1st Alt set for VM. That is set up for my IP phones. I'm not onsite. I called the main number and asked them to transfer me to the extension but voice mail isn't answering. I'm triple checking my programming but am not seeing any issues. Suggestions?
You need to login to the voicemail system as administrator to change the mailbox digit length.
Even if the mailbox length is not set properly you should still get answered by the voicemail system.
I assume you mean login to the VM system through a telnet session? No way I have the time to change mailbox digit length on over 100 vm boxes by accessing the voicemail via phone and logging in via the adminstrator.
As I recall, the digit length is whatever you make the first mailbox (example 100) determines the MB length. Even the admin MB. Either 999 or 9999. So, if changing from 4 to 3, for example, you need to delete all the mailboxes and start from scratch with 3 digit ones. Thanks.
Always look out for the next tech. because one day it will be you!
Right on kwbMitel. Thanks for all of the input gents. I've another question regarding setting up a Multi-Level Auto Attendant via embedded VM in a 3300 AX. I've set up a MLAA via programming. The options are:
1: Directions with sub menus of that will play driving directions
2: Sales which I'd like to ring to a ring group of salesman
3: Reservations which will transfer callers to an external toll free number
0: For the operator.
I've set up mailboxes for each menu and sub menu. My question pertains to the greetings of each menu and sub menu. I assume that I simply log into each mailbox affiliated with a menu and sub menu and record greetings and that those greetings will be heard by callers from outside the hotel?
Afterwards, I add the mailboxes affiliated with the menu and sub menus to the VM Multi-Level Auto Attendants. When that's complete, I simply point the trunks being used for inbound calls to the VM hunt group pilot number.
Yes, for MLAA and menu nodes, you simply log in as if it were a mailbox and the greeting you record is what is played when that menu is selected by a caller. 0 mailbox should already be there, as 0 and 999 (or 9999 if you select 4 digit mailbox length when you initialize the system) are created automatically.
I've run into some issues with the MLAA. The system doesn't seem to understand what it's being asked to do for my sub-menu. For example, I've set up Mailbox 1 for Directions. It's sub-menu is set up for mailboxes 5 - 7. Mailbox 5 is for directions from X City. Mailbox 6 is directions from Y city. Mailbox 6 is for directions from Z city. Mailbox 1 is set up as a menu node. Mailboxes 5 - 7 are set up as Information mailboxes as I only want driving directions from each city to the hotel read to the caller.
In the VM MLAA form, for Mailbox 1(Directions) I've added mailbox 5 to option 1; 6 to option 2; and 7 to option 3. When I test it, I call the main number, get the system greeting: "Welcome to so and so. For Directions, press 1. For Sales press 2. For Reservations press 3. For Billing press 4. I press 1 for Directions. I hear the greeting: "For directions from city X, press 5. For directions from city y, press 6. For directions from city Z, press 7."
I press 5 to listen to the directions but the system tells me "I don't understand that command" and then it repeats the greeting for mailbox 5. Why doesn't the system understand the command? Why is the system not playing the mailbox 5 greeting which is the directions to the hotel?
No, it does not work when I press option 6 or 7. I recorded names and greetings for all voice mailboxes listed above including those for the directions: Mailboxes 5 - 7. The mailbox type for them is set to Information.
Setting up Multi-Level Auto Attendant (MLAA)
(Embedded Voice Mail)
Overview
You program Multi-level Auto Attendant from the System Administration Tool and the Administrator's Mailbox.
In the main (top level) menu, create a single-digit mailbox for each menu choice. You cannot use 0 (reserved for the operator), 9 (reserved for the Directory feature) or, in a bilingual system, the Language Toggle key.
I was pressing 5 because that is the mailbox number. I thought that would be the button number I needed to push. So, call the main number, I get the auto attendant system greeting: Welcome to so and so. For directions press 1. I push 1. For directions from X City, push 5(which is the mailbox number I created). For directions from Y City, push 6. For directions from Z City, push 7.
kwbMitel, I realized your point about selecting option 5. I tried it using your advice. For directions, I chose 1. AFter that, I selected option 1 for directions from X City and still got "I don't understand the command" from the system.
