Old School Backup Exec Question - v9.0

Bandaid is correct. They have no money for the server upgrade or to get their Backup Exec up to date. The backup solution works with version 9.0 so that isn't a problem. They are just looking to more their 9.0 media server license to another device and they have this XP box in mind. fun...

Looking for hard drive based backup solution

Take a look at this from Idealstor. http://www.idealstor.com/teralyte.html We use it for our backups. It comes with backup software but you can also use BE. They also include management software for managing the disks so you don't have to do some of the things with Windows suggested by Tony...

Old School Backup Exec Question - v9.0

Hi there, I am helping a friend of mine out with their backups. They are running 2000 Server on their whole network and Backup Exec 9.0. They may need to move their media server license to an XP workstation that they plan on hooking their new backup device to. Can you install BE 9.0 on an...

    Multiple Backup Jobs to Disk

Thanks Andy. Which version are you using? I tried it in the past with 9.0 and I seem to remember it queued the other jobs up. J Will http://www.designourday.com

    Multiple Backup Jobs to Disk

Can Backup Exec run multiple simultaneous backups to a single disk or does it stagger jobs so one finishes then the next starts? Thanks! J Will http://www.designourday.com

Problems w/ Backup to Removable Drives

I had a similar problem using USB disks. We encountered problems with drive letters but also corrupt data. Apparently the data wasn't writing to the disk properly. We also had slow backup speeds like you are encountering. Take a look at this product: http://www.idealstor.com/teralyte.html We...

    Which backup to disk solution?

When we bought the system we were using Backup Exec. I think we had 9.1 at the time but is very hard to keep track with all the different versions that come out. It was pretty easy to set up and manage the removable disk devices within BE. jwill

    Which backup to disk solution?

Paul - we have been using their product for a few years and so far so good. We have a little more stringent requirements for a backup scheme so we keep two weeks of full backups. We have been using their backup software of late and it has helped us out. The initial backups took a while but...

    IdealStor Disk-Based Backup

Matt, We're using one of their products. We have had a 4 Bay for a few years. What sort of questions do you have? It is working pretty good. We recently bought some of the 750GB disks which was cool because we originally only had 400GB disks available. I use it with Veritas but have...

2007 - Can someone recommend a tape drive?

I use a removable disk solution that offers me 750GB native/disk. I bailed on backup exec for a software that lets me backup in native format and backup incremental changes but restore from them like they are a full. I don't need to use compression this way. It was a little tricky to figure...

    System Recovery Server

I am interested in getting a DR solution and am looking at Backup Exec System Recovery Server. Is this the same as LiveState Recovery (Restore Anywhere)? Is the point of this product to perform bare metal recovery from a disk backup vs tape? Anyone use it before? Feedback? Thanks!

How long should verify process take??

I spoke to the people at Veritas before and they claim that you don't have to verify your backups if you backup to disk. We backup to removable disk and stopped using the verify a while ago. All is peachy.

    Alternative to Veritas

http://www.g-stor.com/solutions/index.php?cat=14&family=37&id=99 Take a look. Alternative to Backup Exec. Plus these guys are in Worthing.

    Backing up Small Business Server

Does Backup Exec have a license for Small Business Server? Anybody know how much it costs? Finding out this information from Symantec has been less than easy. Thanks!

    BE Small Business Edition

Quick question. Is BE Small Business Edition a remote agent of Backup Exec 10d that gets installed on a particluar server or type of servers? Sorry if an elementary question.

    Backup Exec 10d with encryption?

What about running the backup to disk and encrypting the disk using Windows EFS for the folder that the backup resides in? Should work.

Looking to move to Disk Based Backup

We use an ejectable disk to disk solution that we used to replace tape and Commvault did not work in our environment. They had a hard time recognizing removable disk media. We tried to open a ticket with tech support but were lost in a black hole. We were looking to move away from tape by...

Quick question about Veritas 10.0 SQL Agent

When I buy the SQL or Exchange agent, do I also need to purchase their Open File agent? Or are open file backups included with this agent? Thanks, jwill

High Availability/DR options for 2000 Server????

Anybody have any recommendations for high availability options for a 2000 server. I had a real fun experience last night when one of our servers went down and I can't afford a repeat performance. What sort of failover or high availability solutions can be recommended? Any actual experience -...

Why does a verify take so long?

One way out is to backup to disk. Even the guys at Veritas told us the verify option is not required is disk is your target. jwill
