Virus disabled Windows XP ackground Control

This worked for me! However I never did the Adaware part. The smitrem removed it but missed a trojan that it left behind. The Ewido removed that for me. http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=62391

    Beep from motherboard

Clear CMOS but I doubt thats it. Then "the dreaded process of elimination" Clear the board down to just the ram and processor and see if it beeps. If it still does then try different ram. Trial and error with each component.

Bad Video Driver- Quick response appreciated

Check to make sure the refresh rate of the monitor hasn't changed. Also set the monitor to its lowest resolution. Maybe 640x480. In safe mode. Then reboot and bring up the resolution from there if required. Sounds like an unsupported resolution by the video card.

    Blasting under a building

I just got a Sony\Ericsson PCMCIA card for my laptop, and no kidding it says in the manual for safety tips "Do not use around construction sites where blasting occurs". Sony is afraid that the card might set off the explosives prematurely. I found this rather wierd, and was wondering if...

    Selecting memory

The moral of the story is: Don't listen to salespeople! Don't even ask them a question. When they come by try to ignore them. I have heard countless stories of peoples being told things by salespeople that are so inaccurate I get a chuckle everytime. Best Buy people are the worst. Do your...

OExpress works with LAN ; Outlook doesn't

Turn off the firewall the SP2 enables by default inside XP Can you do a "Check Name" inside Outlook 2003? If not try pinging your exchange server for Outlook 2003. If you can't ping it, try pinging it on another machine. Check your DNS settings for your nic card. Hope this helps.

    Indent problem Outlook 2003.

I have a problem trying to turn off indenting when I reply to e-mails. When I hit reply and then start to type a reply it automatically indents the paragraph and I have to backspace to start. I don't want it to this and I can't find anything in Outlook 2003 to turn it off. Must be a registry...

Cleared CMOS, with power cable removed from power supply? Remove ALL cards from system. Just the processor and ram should be in it. No drives nothing hooked up except the power supply. No Boot? Make sure processor and heatsink seated correctly? Bad PSU? Try shorting the green and black wires...

Move P4 chip to another MoBo

If no grounding strap available just touch the side of the case (as long as its not plastic) as this will ground you. Of course remove the power cord. Fan and heatsink can be a bit of a pain. But pry that sucker off there. Your not using the old mobo so break the clips on it. If you do end up...

Primary Hard Drive is not C:

To avoid confusion just take out the other drives and install XP on the drive you want it to be on. Then add the drives after install. As cdogg said though jumper them correctly. or Probably might be able to copy those system files to the 3rd hard drive, then using a bootable disk (Win98...

    230 watt PSU enough?

I was wondering if a 230 watt PSU has enough power for a MicroATX motherboard and a 1 gig celeron, 512megs of ram? All of the other components are onboard. Because the board is smaller does that mean less power would be needed? Its just that I'm thinking of buying a MicroATX case and it has a...

Computer idle as soon as it is switched on

Reseat the processor, and RAM as long as you don't void your warranty by doing it. Make sure processor fan is spinning.

    Where do I start?

Clear CMOS, reset BIOS to default. Swap out ribbon cable or put hard drive on secondary channel and test it that way. PC powering up when you plugged in the cord is nothing new and shouldn't be worried about. But if your not shutting down properly and then not powering up using the power...

Well I found out what it was. 2 bad memory sticks UNBELIEVABLE. Swapped my son's memory with mine and it runs flawless. The tipoff came when I started getting PFN LIST CORRUPT, AND IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL BSOD's. Put the BAD memory in his machine and it locked up. Thanks for the excellent...

    Scroll Reboot?

WOW! "Side note, if you wish to see the BSoD, right click on my computer\properties\advanced\startup and recovery, uncheck the box to "Automatically Restart on system failure"." Didn't even know about this. No wonder I haven't been getting a BSOD. Thanks for the tip this ought to come in...
