After installing SP2 on Windows XP, on a HP 1095c [P4, 3.2G]Outlook Express works like lightning, Outlook 2000, then Outlook 2003 refuse to connect with LAN. I use an NIC connection to DSL Verizon Internet. No wizard or guru has been able to identify the problem...error message always says "No LAN detected" or "Cannot communicate with server.." etc.

Check the firewall settings for ICMP. You need to allow for router discovery, called 'allow incoming router request' in the firewall, Advanced tab, ICMP settings.

Turn off the firewall the SP2 enables by default inside XP

Can you do a "Check Name" inside Outlook 2003?

If not try pinging your exchange server for Outlook 2003.

If you can't ping it, try pinging it on another machine.

Check your DNS settings for your nic card.

Hope this helps.

Have tried all the above remedies without success. Kindly note that Outlook 2003 was installed as Internet Mail only. It refuses to allow testing...that is...to send a test message, although it has the same information as Outlook Express. I had originally installed Outlook 2000 which worked, slowly, before XP SP2 was installed. After that, Outlook 2000 was replaced with the trial Office 2003, but neither 2000 nor 2003, which acknowledge the LAN connection, can reach the Server, in my case, Verizon DSL, through it, although OExpress goes "zoom." Was not able to get a response on check names, but also, have not been able to Ping connection either. More help...puhleeze!

Sorry, I forgot...I did install Norton Systemworks 2005 but the problem had already been evident before then. Switching it on and off has no effect, but I am told, you can blame Norton for alot of things.
