It's a great util i use it to reboot a set of clients each night and force the closing of any open apps. You can put a client list in a text file to shutdown groups of PC's then use task scheduler to run a .bat file.

You can set it to show a popup message telling the user of the impending shutdown, they can then abort the shutdown. I don't tend to use it on office PC's but it comes in handy for shutting down classroom PC's. I think you can set it so it won't shutdown if someone is logged on.

The reason there is so little material is MS recommend using their own DNS. Glens idea of using a second server to support your MS clients might be worth looking into.

PSShutdown is very similar to shutdown.exe it's just a bit more flexible with more switches. Also it doesn't need to be on the station so you can execute a .bat file on a server that will shutdown multiple PC's at the same time.

Here in the U.K it is a requirement that we provide the accessibility features that users require, especially in gov or education where equal opps is heavily supported.
