I've installed the proper software for the USB dongle, and I've restarted. The Apple System Profiler is recognizing & identifying it and the light is on, but Quark just won't see it. This is happening on more than one machine. Am I missing something?
Thanks - nichole
I'm going by Illustrator 6, so you may have to hunt around to find where these functions are now.
Once you draw a shape, you can go to Arrange > Move. This allows you to plug in a direction and a number (say, .25 inches, or whatever the smallest increment your ruler lines will show) and instead...
I haven't worked with Word a lot, so I'm not sure what file formats it can import, but you can save a file in Illustrator as an EPS, and when imported to Quark you can set the background to "none." This retains its "vectorness" and has a transparent background. Hopefully Word...
This idea is half-baked, but the chart you mentioned made me think of the memory card game, where you put the cards in rows and columns and then take turns trying to find matching pairs. I'm still trying to figure out how to merge the chart idea with the memory card idea, but maybe someone else...
amd800,
it adds the slash if you insert the graphic based on where it is in relation to site root, rather than the document you're placing it in. This option appears in the dialog box that comes up when you insert image, right below the place where the name of the graphic appears. If you select...
Okay, this is early-on in the ol' brainstorming session I'm having, but here goes...
background is the everglades
time period is displayed and illustrated (modern = plane flies by, etc.)
two species are shown in foreground
"Which was there more of in this time period?"
They click on...
Most of you probably know about this, but if not, i've found it to be a great way to interject a little humor into a long lecture (or a long day).
Draw a box on the page and instead of using command K (mac) to delete it, use shift option command K. You'll get a little alien that marches out and...
something in addition to what sveta said:
check your file names to make sure they following the naming conventions (ex. no spaces, has extension at end, etc.)

Okay, first of all, shouldn't you be doing something childlike and innocent, and well, NOT HARD like Flash? Enjoy your youth, please. As for the preloader, this may seem long, but I want to make sure my instructions are clear. I'm writing this with Flash 4 instructions because it's all I have...
Tip I came across in a users meeting:
If you've noticed that small, half second delay of event sounds that sometimes occurs, like a clunk sounding just after your animated brick hit the ground, this can help. It's called a kicker. You create the sound event as usual (keyframe with sound on it)...
with the <table> selected, in the properties palette you should see where it's asking for the width and height, with settings in either percent or pixels. If you select pixels and enter the size, you should be all set. - nichole
zavsays,
You might also look into getting one of the "learn DW in a weekend" or the dummie's series or anything by Visual QuickStarts Basics or a Lynda Weinman book. They're a little smaller and less expensive (around $25) and they do a lot of handholding and walkthrough. Good for...
MatthewA,
Yes! When I looked into the Server folder, there was an alias for each of the two servers it kept going toward. For good measure I followed PTmon's advice as well. You guys have made several people in this office VERY happy.
thanks again - nichole
Not sure if this will help your situation, but it's a little work-around I use for when I need evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines (like a table). I make a text box and in the measurements palette set the columns to the number of columns across that I need. Then I make a small text box...
You can do it, but it doesn't feel as precise as I'd like. (You'll see what I mean).
Select your image and go to Item > Edit > Shape so that the shape is NOT editable (big handles and rectangle selection box). Click on the handle half way down the selection box on the one of the sides and start...
We have a G4 running system 9.0 which keeps coming up with a log in prompt to a server over ethernet. We've checked to make sure the checkboxes aren't selected that prompts it to do this, I've zapped the PRAM, I've reset the keychain prefs and I've tried starting up with base extensions on and...
Oldnewbie,
That's perfect! You rock! Also, thanks TulsaJeff. I love Flashkit and recommend it to anyone looking for a site that you can sample and download multiple formats easily.
Thanks again (and more gushing from a person whose search is over!)

I'm creating a flash movie that starts out like those old film reels (specks of dust, cracks, etc. jittering and rolling) but I'd like to top it off with that "old film reel to reel" sound of a movie projector. I've been searching everywhere, but as you can guess, the terms...
I've found something in PS 6 that might also work.
Duplicate the layer that the photo is on and apply Filter - Sketch - Graphic Pen with whatever settings you like. Then go to Image - Adjust - Invert. Group this layer with your original photo and turn the opacity down on the duplicated...
If you mean the annoying override that it does where the shortcut function keys don't work in particular programs, here's how to fix it: (First, you'll have to lose anything that's been assigned to these keys. If you don't want to do this, stop here.)
Go to Control Panels - Keyboards.
At the...
