Repair install back to XP SP1 did NOTHING to help the problem......

DNS is ok....IE just does not recognise that something is "new" in the address bar.....if an item is already in the address bar, as in the dropdown, it will go to the address fine...... Thinking of doing a repair install of XP shortly.....

I ment that IE address bard does NOT work....I should have been more clear..... I am thinking the problem might be related to a DVD burner driver, or similar. 1 of the options to "send to" is to the DVD burner.....when I open My Computer, it takes about 20 seconds to show the available drives...
