Relative vs. absolute time/date in MS Project

I think you misunderstood my question. I'm not trying to set a start-to-start lag... (by the way -- there are easier techniques for setting start lags) I'm trying to display the units of the start date column with a relative date. My only choices for formating this column are absolute unless I...

Relative vs. absolute time/date in MS Project

Is it possible to display relative dates in the 'Start Date' column? I've only seen absolute dates displayed. For example, if a task were to start on Aug. 1st., and there are successor tasks that were to follow with a week lag... they show a start date of Aug. 7th. I'd like to display a start...

    non-software projects

Are there any people participating in this forum that are not working in software development? (that was my old job) I'm looking for people that might have more experience in a manufacturing environment (like a semiconductor fabricator). Is anyone aware of other forums that might be a better...

    Displaying bars in the timeline

The resources are available at least 100% during the time periods. The 1st task has 1 human resource and 1 equipment resource (both set to 100%). The 2nd task requires two people and several pieces of equipment, so the human resources are at 200%. The link between the 1st and 2nd task is...

    Displaying bars in the timeline

The 1st task in my project has a 30 minute duration, starts at 8:00 AM and it's bar measures about 3/16" long on my screen. The 2nd task (linked to the 1st) has a 2 hour duration, so it spans from 8:30 to 10:30 AM and it's bar measures about 1/16" long. -Gregg

    Project Document Templates

If you don't mind, I would like to take a look at your templates as well. Let us know when you have a URL we can look at. Thanks, Gregg

    Displaying bars in the timeline

Just curious, Why don't the length of the bars accurately reflect the length of time it takes to complete a task. I'm seeing tasks that have a 30 minute duration with longer timeline bars than a 4 hour task. This doesn't make sense... I'm sure this is because of the size of my scales and the...

    activities during nonworking times

I'm not following you... "if the equipment is assigned to the task as well as a resource the task can be scheduled to have activity on that day" What do you mean by this? Are you implying that it is 2 different things? 1) equipment assigned to a task, 2) a resource. The equipment...

    activities during nonworking times

I figured it out... The base calendar for the engineers uses a standard 8 hour day (8am - 12pm and 1pm - 5pm) with a 1 hour lunch break at noon. The equipment's base calendar is a 24 hour calendar - no breaks. If a task spans across the noon hour (or to the next day) the engineer's schedule...

    Logical relationships between tasks

Thanks for the advice. I found that by organizing the different options under a summary tasks, it was easier to manage. Since there were 4 different tests, I simply linked only one test to the follow on tasks. Then I would print out my Gantt chart. Then I would unlink that test and link the...

    activities during nonworking times

I have set up a schedule of activities with human and equimpment resources assigned to tasks. The project uses a standard calendar with regular work hours: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. The base calendar for the human resources all use this calendar. The equipment are on a 24 hour...

    Logical relationships between tasks

Does anyone know if MS Project 2000 can support logical relationships between tasks? For example, we have a project that involves 4 what-if tests. There are 4 possible ways to solve a problem. If anyone of these works, great. Then the other tests are un-necessary and we can continue on with...

Can't remember how to shift the entire MS Project forward one month.

Not sure if this is the correct answer, but can't you just open the Project Information dialog box (within the Project menu) and edit the 'Start Date'?

changing working time in MS Project 2000

I figured it out... All I had to do was select the correct base calendar. To do this, I went to Project->Project Information; then I clicked on the Calendar dropdown and chose the "custom1" calendar.

changing working time in MS Project 2000

I've created a project with about 250 tasks. This project spans over several days and a weekend. We measure small increments of time (to the minute). I started out with the standard calendar - 5 work days/week, M - F, 8 hours of work / day. It also used the default schedule of 8:00am - 12:00pm...
