I am attempting to rebuild a Zeos Meridian 400 laptop (486/DX2-50). The user manual is available online but have had no luck in locating a service manual. There is no obvious way to open the case to access the hard drive. Any advice will be much appreciated.
I had exactly the same thing happen on a Dell Pentium II machine two years ago. As masterchicker says, the problem turned out to be a power supply that was too small. The easy solution - disconnect or remove one of the cd drives. Since then, I have not found any reason (for everyday use) to have...
Sell them on Ebay as a single lot. Nonworking drives are offered quite often, and someone will buy them, for the right price (maybe a very few dollars + shipping). I suppose the buyer will do something useful with them - other than putting them in a landfill.
Another thought: Donating them to a...
Thanks to all of you the invisible half of the hard drive has appeared. I was using the Windows ME editon of FDISK, so it does support FAT32. The motherboard and BIOS are from 1998 and that must have been the problem - here's what happened:
The HD was jumpered as "Master" and placed as the only...
I bought a used 4.3 GB Fujitsu hard drive at an auction. FDISK says that it had 2.1 GB (total).
1. I have "Zeroed" the entire drive (not just the 2.1 GB partion) with KILLDISK - still says 2.1 GB.
2. Have run the Fujitsu diagnostic software, FJDT_6.EXE. This software says it is 4.3 GB disk...
DragonQ0105 - The motherboard will fit, a lot of thought has gone into the specifications for the various size motherboards. Take a look around this web site for the tech specs: http://www.formfactors.org/default.asp
We have the opportunity to use either of the following two machines as a secondary computer. Since we already own both, cost is not an issue. Which would you recommend as a better choice for applications such as Word, Excel, minor photo editing (Microsoft Photo Editor 3.0), simple word games...
Freeware called PdfEdit995 at the following site may do what you are asking: www.pdf995.com
I been using Pdf995, another program from this website, to create .pdf documents for over 2 years. It does an excellent job. Have never tried the PdfEdit995 program however.
There are different ideas about the need for the front case intake fan. Page 19 of this AMD document says that they are not essential: http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/23794.pdf
Other documents, including some on the AMD, website suggest using an intake...
Our ISP furnished us with WinPoet 4.0 software to manually access the internet (using DSL). It works great on Windows 98 & 98SE - never a problem. However in Windows 2000 Pro the software fails to connect about three times out of four - it says that there is a problem with "modem or other...
I'm teaching myself how to dual boot Windows 98SE & Windows 2000 on a "test bed" computer assembled from spare parts. I have two hard drives (IBM & Western Digital). Can Windows 98SE be in a partion on one of the hard drives and Windows 2000 be in a partion on the second hard drive? Or do the...
I'm glad that you asked this question. I have a Lexar 64 Mb Jump Drive (USB 1.1), today had a file get "stuck" on it - could not delete the file or do anything else with it (tried 3 different computers, two with Windows 2000, one with Windows 98SE). I could add and remove other files as usual...
I have just installed Windows 98SE on my IBM 380Z Laptop (Pentium II, 233 MHz, 96 Mb RAM). Following IBM's recommendation for this machine, I took the steps needed to install in APM mode instead of ACPI mode. What capabilities are not available with this operating system in APM mode compared...
Take wagnj1's advice on power supply sizing. The SilenX brand is probably the amoung the best (electronically) and also the quietest that has a fan. The cost (About $100) is much less that the excellent fanless brands. Watch out for imitators however, the SilenX website will explain. I purchased...
