I bought a used 4.3 GB Fujitsu hard drive at an auction. FDISK says that it had 2.1 GB (total).

1. I have "Zeroed" the entire drive (not just the 2.1 GB partion) with KILLDISK - still says 2.1 GB.

2. Have run the Fujitsu diagnostic software, FJDT_6.EXE. This software says it is 4.3 GB disk and that it is in good conditon.

3. Have run the NTFS partion delete software, DELPART - still shows as 2.1 GB.

Any suggestions on what I need to do to "find" the other half of my hard drive?

Thanks

Re Fdisk it with a Win98 boot disk. Delete the old partition, reboot and then create a new partition.

You are using a version of fdisk which supports fat32? And you are typing Y in the enable large disk support box when fdisk starts?

killdisk should've wiped the drive completely, so guessing here;
Use win98 Fdisk ver. to delete all part's in this order
non-dos - logical dos drives - extended partition - primary active. Reboot and choose "Y" when fdisk starts (though NOT necessary, if everything else is working) then create Primary -make active.....and Fdisk /Status
If you use Fat16, you'll need to create Primary -make it active and then create an Extended DOS partition in which to allocate space for Logical DOS drives.
which OS do you want to install?
which Fdisk ver?
how old mobo and BIOS?

Thanks to all of you the invisible half of the hard drive has appeared. I was using the Windows ME editon of FDISK, so it does support FAT32. The motherboard and BIOS are from 1998 and that must have been the problem - here's what happened:

The HD was jumpered as "Master" and placed as the only device at the end of the cable on the primary IDE channel. As stated, all software showed the HD size as 2.1 GB.

I change the jumpers to "Cable Select" and put the drive back at the same location, at the end of the cable as the only device on the primary IDE channel. Result - all software now shows the HD correctly as 4.3 GB.

I don't understand "Why", but it does solve the problem. Again, many thanks for your insight.

Why?
Non-consistency in any sort of standard. Some pc's (ex compaq), also reverse the Master/Slave position along the cable (instead of the standard IDE Master on the End Connector and the Slave on Middle-ish Connector) and some companies even Require special 'cable-select' cables

TekTippy4U - This machine is an old Compaq - thanks for the explanation.

Why? Not rebooting between removing the first partition and creating a new one, perhaps?
