Also, "fixing" bad sectors is not generally a permanant fix. Once the sectors start to go, generally more will start to go as well. If you are able to recover your data, I would not use this HDD as a primary again. Most I would do is use as a diagnostic tool if you need to test the IDE or SATA...

Win XP.. Possible to wake on network connection???

Ok, thanks.. Reason I ask is because I will be out of town next month and have an FTP connection set with my system. I will be doing a lot of photography, and plan to upload the images from where I am to home so I have an easier time of accessing them once home. I guess I can just leave the comp...

    A disk read error occurred.

Well, my first question is regarding your first comment. What are the "usual" problems that you have with Windows XP? Second, it sounds like one of a few things could have happened. 1- Your computer had some sort of virus or other malware that totally screwed up your hard drive. 2- Your...

Win XP.. Possible to wake on network connection???

Hey all.. I am wondering if there is a way for Win XP to come out of hibernation on network activity. Say, if I were to connect via FTP to my computer to transfer some files over.. If this is possible, I'd really like to know how. Thanks! Chris

I checked Viewsonic's site, but couldn't find anything that would help. Any assistance would be appreciated...

Sony Vaio laptop specs and other questions..

I ended up lookign further, and there was something almost too small to see, labeled PCG-FXA47 on the right side under the screen.. That pulled it up. Apparently only 7 gigs is useful for anything while the recovery software is there. I told her about it, an we figured out what we want to do...

    Buying new computer E Machine

Sam, you may want to find a discussion board where people who play the same games as you post. There, you could ask them what sort of systems they have and what the specs are. I find that before upgrading my machine that I play my games on it helps to know what other (seasoned) players use...
