Eureka!!! I have it sussed. I uninstalled the driver in hardware manager and rebooted the PC. It found the mousee and reinstalled the mouse drivers. All seems to be going well. Many thanks for all of your help guys. Regards Unofire

Thanx for the advice unfortunately the usb mouse also acted erratically in the same way as the serial. However I will try the uninstall/reinstall even though its running on the standard microsoft stuff.
