Recently, when I boot up my pc, the cursor is shown but the mouse(PS2) starts to act strange. For example, firstly I cant use the right button then if I wish to Click on a program it opens it many times. Its even a nightmare when you try to access the start button to shut down as I end up in a loop situation.Furthermore, when I do attempt to open a programm the program opens times I have swapped the mouse, sfc/scannow, hardware check ie memory etc but no results shown. Ive even contemplating a new PSU and or motherboard Has anyone got any ideas whether its a hardware or software problem.

Thanx in anticipation

Have you tried using a USB mouse to see if the problem exists with that?

Hi, yes forgot to mention I have tried a usb mouse which was detected as normal

in addition, the usb mouse's behaviour was the same.

I have to point out that if you have a wireless mouse then check your batteries.
If you dont have a usb mouse you could try a serial mouse.

If usb mouse functions normally I would feel that it's probably a driver related issue. Try a Remove/Re-install/Update drivers and any software you may have installed for the mouse.

Thanx for the advice unfortunately the usb mouse also acted erratically in the same way as the serial. However I will try the uninstall/reinstall even though its running on the standard microsoft stuff.

You may want to rule out virus or malware and you can do that by going to trend-micro and letting them do an online scan of your system.
But i would do the drive re-install as noted above, first.
