I finaly fixed the problem. As it turns out on my Kt6 board there is a setting in the bios something like "system performance" i don't know exactly what changes it makes but the options are as follows, ultra, turbo, and fast. if you set it to either of the first two the card will not...
i would go with a single chip p4. it does make some difference what fsb speed you are running at but higher speeds can cost a bit more especialy with amd chips. as far as the video card 64mb is low end for games these days.
the posts are good but rais onther question i have. what is the point of allocating irq to vga in the bios. some old tek i once new told me it was a wast of resources because the vga card never need to break into the cpu time so to speak. i always thought it was a wast of an irq and have...
AP81 is right. you don't need the old dell connector. what you should do though is take off the front panel on the old case if trace each set of wires from the led or button in question to their respective placing on the 20 pin thing you mentioned this will tell you where on the headers that...
to answer you question, the system just stops dead. the mouse won't move, the led lights don't blink its like i just froze it dead. i have to hit the reset button to get it back to life. also your board uses a via chipset right?
oh i forgot to mention. i know the card works as i have used it successfuly in another none via system and i am successfuly using another wifi card of different make in my system. its an old linksys but its working without a hitch.
I am trying to set up a D-link dwl-g520 wifi card on my system. i have tried so many different things (such as pulling other cards, chaning settings, new drivers, switching slots, using another card, etc.) that i doubt its something simple but whenever i install the card it freezes the system...
thats not entirly true. in most cases you canno't add drives to a raid without wiping them out. however there are certain raid controlers that will let you add an existing hard drive to a mirror raid without wiping it out. check through the manuel of whatever controler you are using to be...
I don't know for sure but it seems to me that a hardware raid controler would do the job a lot faster then running one through software because it takes the workload on it self rather then on the rest of the system. with a hardware controler the system sees the control as the hard drive however...
i don't know if its possible to set icons to the default but if you take the time to change the setting in all the folders that you commonly visit then they should stay that way in the future.
on commone step i often use to solv similar problems is to open up the start menue and click on run. in the box type msconfig then click the startup tab of the window that comes up. the listeings in this tab are all the programs that start with windows. uncheck everything except systray and...
just think if you were talking to a friend regarding a tooth ache. do you want the dentist sitting next to you to throw in his two cents on what you should take for it. prob. not you would think he was crazy.
has no one in this business ever heard of running a good old hardware test on a machine. everyone keeps talking about wiping things out and swapping this and that wich is all fine a good but my personal rule of thumb is after about five minutes if it still won't work run a hardware test on the...
just a hunch but it looks fine to me. seems like i have loaded similar systems. remember that win2k has its own version of drivers for several parts. for example the sounblaster card might show in device manager some strange name but it might still work. i have seen this kinda thing a few times.
i would never even power on a system with out proper cooling in place. and secondly system idle process wont tell you a thing about whats overheating or not. you realy should fix it before you do anything else. they are so easy to blow. i did one in about 5 seconds literaly. and that was...
Even the most carefuly protected games have been successfuly coppied. if you are worried about it then don't pass it out. there is not much eles you can do. if its something you are selling then charge a high price and let it go. if you are giving it out for free then don't worry about it in...
i don't know what the last post was all about but i agree with ReddLefty if its under warranty then play dumb and send it in. In my experience when stuff goes out after a power failier its cause its realy bad. os's don't go out with the power but hardware does and quick lol. I have seen whole...
most motherboards talk about fsb settings in terms of half. i can't think of the reason at the momement but i know there is one. i think its something about double data rate stuff like in ddr ram. anyway a setting of 133 in the bios is effectivly 266 etc. if you try to set the bios up to say...
along those lines if you go to the run command in the start menue, type "msconfig" and hit the startup tab. remove the check boxes next to anything you don't want starting up automaticly. i think the only one you should leave is systray or something to that effect. the rest should...
