6GB of memory missing

Your memory is all there. vmstat reports memory stats in pages which are 4kb in size. 1972498 * 4096 = 8079351808 Which is pretty darn close to 8 GB. :-) Geoff

    finding unused user accounts

The 'last' command gives all login history of all users. last <username> | head -n1 will give you the last time that a user logged into the system. One caveat - if the user has not logged in within the last year and the wtmp file has not been reset in that time, you may get a false positive...

Script file in ksh not working

First off, it's not a Korn shell script. For it to execute in Korn shell, you need to make the first line - #!/usr/bin/ksh (note the '!') As it is, it just executes in whatever shell that you're currently running. The code seems pretty simple so it should run fine regardless. Second, when...

    Eject /cdrom

The first 2 add the Rock Ridge extensions to the ISO-9660 file system in the mount commands and the kernel. The 3rd corrects a potential Data Page Fault condition in the kernel when reading Rock Ridge CDs. After installing these, you should be able to use the normal mount command to mount Rock...

    FYI, I just created a FAQ about patches to replace the need for PFS. 11.00 ----------------------- PHCO_26449 PHKL_26450 PHKL_28060 11.11 ----------------------- PHCO_25841 PHKL_28025 PHKL_26269 mount -o rr <CD Devname> <CD Mountpoint> Geoff

    Patches to replace PFS

    PFS shouldn't be needed anymore if you've installed the following patches on your system. 11.11 --------- PHCO_25841 PHKL_28025 PHKL_26269 11.00 --------- PHCO_26449 PHKL_26450 PHKL_28060 mount -o rr <CD devname> <CD Mountpoint>

    NIM: Install 4.3.3 on p610

OK. Problem solved. It was simply a case of us not having the latest 4.3.3 CDs. It turns out that the SCSI Ultra 3 cards are not supported until the 09/2001 version (LCD4-0286-07). Obtaining and creating the SPOT with this version took care of the problem. Geoff

    NIM: Install 4.3.3 on p610

Well, I just updated the microcode on the drives and that didn't help. I rebuilt the lpp_source and spot for AIX 4.3.3 and verified that it works for a 43P. But it still won't work for the p610s. I still think I'm faced with a driver issue with the network boot install kernel. How do you get...

    Error Message in Syslog

Is this system connected to a UPS? If so, then the communications channel is not properly setup. If not, then you can safely ignore these messages or just disable the UPS monitoring daemon. Geoff

    NIM: Install 4.3.3 on p610

What kind of problems were you experiencing? Were they DOA or just wouldn't work with AIX 4.3.3? Thanks, Geoff

    NAME_MAX in HP-UX

It would really be helpful if you could tell us what you're trying to accomplish here. I'm sure that changing NAME_MAX on a vxfs filesystem will put you in the unsupported realm if it even works. NAME_MAX is used to construct the inode tables on both the disk and in the kernel. I would be...

    Automounting Problem.

    FYI - pfs shouldn't be needed anymore if you've installed the following patches on your system. 11.00 --------- PHCO_25841 PHKL_28025 PHKL_26269 11.11 --------- PHCO_26449 PHKL_26450 PHKL_28060 Geoff

    Automounting Problem.

Hi, To use the "/net/" automount structure put the following entry in /etc/auto_master. echo "/net -hosts" >> /etc/auto_master Stop and start nfs.client Geoff BTW - no system file should ever be mode 666, 644 is adequate. And .rhosts entries have nothing to do with NFS...

    NIM: Install 4.3.3 on p610

Hi, I've just setup a NIM server on an AIX 5.2. I'm trying to install 4.3.3 over the network on a pseries 610. I've installed the latest maintenance patch bundles on both the server and the NIM 4.3.3 lpp source as well as upgraded the firmware revisions. It boots the TFTP image just fine, but...
