Jepp, I saw the other thread. I am with you with the virus idea ... Strange though that it happened exactly after running the database tools. After I did the disaster recovery, I moved the database to another SQL-server. Seems saver to me.
Thanks,
Conny
To get rid of that error, I uninstalled ARCserve (with reboots and deleting of leftover files and registry entries) and then reinstalled it. Unfortunately, at the end of the installation, when it comes to starting the services, I received the same error message.
I have been thinking about a...
I am already thinking of changing the software ... We are using the RAID option, because we need to sets of tapes ... that makes it not so easy to switch ... Not everyone has it ...
Conny
PS: For ARCserve 7.0 there is an patch from CA for your problem :-) Did you see that?
Well, then as a last resort, you might want to try to do a backup by media and bring back the entire tape ...
Otherwise I am sorry ... I have no more ideas ...
(By the way, I sit here and do disaster recovery of my backup server, too ...).
Still, good luck and a wonderful weekend, whenever it...
Forgot, you said you were on version 6 ...
I would still give it a try, you can always remove the key if it does not work. It does nothing than bypass the catalog file and instead read the data from the tape.
Put it below task ...

Try to do the merge again after you change the following registry entry (this will do the merge without using the catalog file):
add "HKLM\software\computerassociates\Brightstore ARCserve Backup\Base\Task\Merge"
below that add "DonotUseCatalogMerge" REG_DWORD 1
Hope this...
Hi,
I ran dbcheck, dchain and keybuild on asjob, asmedia and asobject ... just like you said. Now the ARCserve services are not coming up anymore. Whatever service I want to start I get the error: "Error 193: %1 is not a valid Win32 application."
Any idea?
Conny
I usually only run dbcheck and dbfix on a weekly basis ..
In wich order would you suggest to run the tools?
dbcheck -> dbfix -> dbdefrag -> dchain -> keybuild?
And two more questions: does the "-p"-switch speed it up a little? What about the purge? I only have it set to purge records...
Unfortunately by now I reinstalled ARCserve since it stopped working last Friday.
The jobs did not continue when they should have changed media. When manually inserting the next media, the tape debug showed "invalid job handle passed in !". I then reinitialized all database (to get...
Hm .. I have never seen that one.
If you know what the library setup is like, I would now go for reinstalling the entire library config.
Unistall the tape library option via add/remove programs, delete (or better export and then delete, thus you are able go back to where you are now) the...
No, not inside ARCserve Manager, start it from Start Menu; usually when you start it, it stops the tape engine anyway (at least it did when I configured my library). Then you will have to go through the library setup again.
Conny
Try re-running the device configuration; I have seen that firmware updates to tapedrives brings ARCserve to loose the device configuration.
Hope that helps,
Conny
Hi,
not sure if it helps, but my E8511 with a Linux Client disappeared afterwards: go to server admin, from the menu bar select admin and then multiple network cards and change the setting to have the OS decide which network card to use.

Conny
Hi,
I am not sure why you need two jobs instead of just having both jobs combined in one, but oh well ...
I would try to have the second job run as "post-job" of the first one, by writing a script that executes your second job via ca_backup.exe.
I have never done this, but maybe it...
Hi,
I have some problems with ARCserve version 9 SP4A and its database.
Running dbcheck on asobject reports errors, thus I ran dbfix which ended and said errors have been fixed. But if I ran dbcheck again the errors were still there. Thus I ran keybuild that also ended with status fixed. Still...
Hi,
thanks for the info ... but neither restarting the client agents nor the wins-entries helped.
By now I seem to have solved it anyway by opening server admin -> admin -> multiple network cards and then have windows (instead of ARCserve) decide what lan-card to us. Since then everything...
