Okay, this might a little confusing, but I'll try to explain clearly as possible. I currently have 4 HDDs hooked up to a Promise TX2000 PCI IDE Raid controller. I have two arrays with 120GBs & 160GBs, both stripping (dual raid 0). My mobo is a MSI MS-6380 (AMD socket A) which includes a...
yeah, i would first make sure it's a bootable FDD first.
if that doesn't work, does the FDD light comes on and stay on? if so, you have the FDD cable reversed. if not, try looking with a flashlight to make sure all the pins made it in the connector. and lastly, if that doesn't work, try...
i've encountered the exact problem few months back while building a system for my brother...at least i think it's the same.
put in a data CD (any type, games, programs, but not music or video) and reboot. once booted, check if the XP sees the drive.
actually, i still haven't found a fix for...
It's weird that unplugging the mouse will cause the system to boot okay. Mouse doesn't consume that much power. Based on your description of the problem, sounds like either you have IDE controller or power problem. I would think the power is more probable.
Have added added any additional ide...
venkman, i would first into crisc's hotfix link.
if you still want to upgrade the HW, i wouldn't buy a faster CPU. also, if he has no issues with game performance, better agp gpu won't really help either. sounds like he has problems loading programs, but fine in games which leads me to...
NADIAZIPPER,
If your having speed issues, I wouldn't goto an external drive. USB2.0 or Fireware is not going to solve the problem, actually, it'll make it worse.
You wrote that you have two another 40GB HDDs, right? I recommend you buy a cheapo RAID card ($20~$40) and setup those two HDDs in...
thanks diogenes10.
that article really helps. doing a quick calculation, i'm way short of power. also, i noticed that my PS unit only have six ide power cables, but adding 2 hdds will require seven cables.

i've had similar problems with my two IBM laptops. Both laptops experienced a similar failures and turned out to be the HDDs were bad in both cases. Talking to our IT guys, I guess this problems is not that unusal for IBM laptops. Only good news is that it's an easy fix, but expensive! Just...
