I installed an internal SATA drive. Now the "Safely remove hardware" icon is always in the system tray with an option to remove this hard drive.
How can I get rid off in this menu? It does not make sense to remove an internal drive; nor does it to remove the system drive.
Thanks!
This is to answer my own question: once I copied the Installer directory over, the icon problem is fixed.
One more problem: MaxBlast does not copy the permissions properly. Have to reset everything myself.
I realized one thing. Under Folder Option -> File Type, those files have icon associated to some file in windows directory {...}\Installer and they don't seem to exist on copied drive.
I think I will try to copy those files and see what would happen.
a few years ago, Maxtor has "Acoustic Managemnet" and provide a tool to change the setting.
The tool is now gone. Do they still do the same with the new Maxline SATA drives?
Thanks!
I used MaxBlast 4 Windows to clone a boot partition to a new drive. XP SP2 boots successfully and things seem to work. However, I noticed a couple of problems afterward.
1. All adobe apps needs re-activation
2. Quite a lot icons disappear. For example, all office files
3. Those shortcuts...
Repair did not work. Those file types have icon set to in windows system directory, which is probably not copied by MaxBlast. Is there any way to fix them without going through them one by one?
I used MaxBlast to copy the boot partition to the new drive. It books fine. However, a few shortcuts lost their icons, mainly the microsoft office ones. Properties on the shortcut has the icon button greyed out.
Anyway to rebuild them properly?
Thanks!
Which software can be used to clone an IDE hard drive to SATA hard drive?
The IDE HD is 160GB with about 40 GB data (incl. XP installation). The target is a 250GB SATA (OEM with no software). I would like to make a 100GB partition on the target drive and copy the IDE drive.
Which software...
Last time I did something similar is going into registry to change the drive letter just before the drive copy. a bit tricky. not sure if i want to try this one.
I've finished the first step: swap the mobo/cpu on the old pata drive and did a repair installation. It finished fine.
Now the 2nd step. Any drive copying software that can recognize SATA drive?
Thanks!
It says I have to set the power setting to Minimal Power Management. When I change the setting, there is nothing new showing up.
Does it mean that I can't let the machine go into Standby with Cool'n'Quiet?
Thanks!
