    SWAT is not installed as part of Red Hat 8.0. Go to rpmfind.net and find a version that is listed as Red Hat 8.0 and install. see "man rpm" for install instructions. normally: # rpm -ivh package.rpm

    Yes you can add an entry into /etc/hosts. See "man hosts" for details on the format. See also http://au1.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/Samba24Hc13.pdf which is refrenced many times in this forum for troubleshooting samba - it is a good read.

    Look closely at that error message - it is saying NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME. BAD NETWORK NAME! How long is your hostname/domain name in /etc/samba/smb.conf - I think the limit is 15 chars. I strongly suggest no spaces underlines, or dashes in the name. They may work but I always avoid. eg...
