goto www.dslreports.com and find the section where it will look for security holes on your internet connection. That will let you know if you have something inadvertent opened up. I assume you do not have any web servers on the workstation. Code Red and now SQL slammer certainly point out...
I have ax XP 2100+ slightly underclocked and a generic aluminum heatsink and fan and simple white thermal grease. it runs about the same temp as yours.
I havea new Asus A7N8X mobo that will shutdown the power if the CPU is too hot so I assume the temp is ok from that point of view.

300$ for a 120 GIG maxtor rig. he mentions...
PS you could get a combo DVD/CD-RW drive and pull out out either the DVD or CD-RW drive, unless of course you use both drives together in the video editing process.
Think outside the box
what about a USB 2.0 card and then hook up external USB Hard Drives. I do not know how many you can put on USB at once but you can get external powered ones, can swap out hard drives so could catagorize them by projects, file type or whatever. This way you have...
hi,
I have been going through a heat sink fan educatiopn as well as I forgot to order one last week with my AMD xp 2100+ and ASUS A7N8X mobo. I bought a generic fan at CompUSA (where they also sell the Artic SilverIII or similar) to get me by until a good one was ordered and shipped. I first...
bought a $10 generic HSF from compusa before I called into newegg. this got me by the post power down.
The Antec reference I bought for $25 had an idea I liked of a four poronged standard power connector to pull power from the PSU and not mobo. Then one wire on 3 pin connector to mobo for...
10 bucks on standard fan did the trick - The Mobo posts to the IDE section now. In a short while I will add the other peripherals and try installing winXP.
the fan was a compusa 10 buck geberic with 3 pin connector that pulled power OFF THE MOBO and had a wire for fan speed. That is the trick...
Thanks paparazi,
if I ever get by the post "problem with system memory" error I will get the Thermalright: SLK800 in anticipation of the day the AMD xp 333fsb gets to $100.
I have seen reviews where this model delivers the best all around ambient temp. The antec reference I have...

Bought one stick of memory now, and will add another later when I can afford it. Most reviews give only about a 5% boost to dual channel so I would get more memory more for having a full gig. I am a programmer after all and my tools like memory.
I would not think the fan is the problem now...
Ok, ordered parts from newegg.com

I just got my parts last night and no HSF with them - forgot to order one :( So I put together what I had figuring I would have it boot and get one today. 4 seconds of power and then power off. Good posts from Dec 26 on the problem and a HSF attached to the MB is NEEDED.
(hey ASUS, u could...
