name and model of HSF for A7N8X 2

I just got my parts last night and no HSF with them - forgot to order one So I put together what I had figuring I would have it boot and get one today. 4 seconds of power and then power off. Good posts from Dec 26 on the problem and a HSF attached to the MB is NEEDED.
(hey ASUS, u could mention that in the book)
so
I need a HSF today and the posts made it clear it had to the correct type or still no power. Can you reply and tell me what name and model you use with these new boards. Specifically if u have Asus A7N8X would ensure success in what I get. So far I found one review that mentions the brand and it was CAK4-76T. (ps I will be going to CompUSA so it needs to a major brand)

There must be more than 30 recommended heatsink/fan manufactures and all make coolers suitable for your Asus motherboard.
Coolermaster, Taisol, Swiftech, thermal right,
Thermal Take, Cooljag, Vantek, Globalwin etc and they are just the few that spring to mind.
All the information you need is:
Socket "A" processor (Athlon or Duron)
Processor speed eg: XP2.0+ , XP2.6+ (or Duron)
Ask for a recommended AMD cooler rated AT LEAST to your processor speed but preferably a couple of processor speeds above the one you have.
Note* copper bottomed or all copper if yours is the latest thoroubred core (40% less contact area than a Palemino) so it requires copper or other special material (silver) which absorbs heat better than aluminium.

This mobo has a safety shutdown feature if cpu temps risr above a predetermined level (I just ordered one-didn't get it yet). I ordered a swiftech mcx462-u heatsink and a sunon 80x80x25mm fan. did research on fans and they are rated by cfm (cubic feet per minute of air moved) and db (the noise they make) the sunon fan is rated 45cfm and low noise.

I just spent a few minutes putting together a list of suitable and affordable coolers for your board, understand there are many more, alot are very expensive and over the top for the average user and some even require motherboard removalto fit them.
So I have stuck to good basic coolers, all rated at 2.6+ that are easy to fit and don't cost the earth.
Cheapest first:
Coolermaster: CP5-7JD1B-OL and DP5-6151D
Taisol CGK 760172*(personal recommendation) and CGK 760098
Cooljag: JVC652A
Thermaltake: Volcano 9
Thermalright: SLK800 (this cooler is top dog at the mo) but a little expensive compared to the others.

if I ever get by the post "problem with system memory" error I will get the Thermalright: SLK800 in anticipation of the day the AMD xp 333fsb gets to $100.

I have seen reviews where this model delivers the best all around ambient temp. The antec reference I have does not have a temp sensor going down into the heat sink.

I am running an Asus A7N8X (deluxe). I am curently running @ 107f with an xp 2000 in it. My HSF is a Swiftech MCX-462U. It may be louder than most but the other 5 fans in my case are not exactly quiet. I plan to upgrade the cpu as soon as I make a little more money. BTW I love it.

Love the forums guys keep the ideas flowing.

bought a $10 generic HSF from compusa before I called into newegg. this got me by the post power down.

The Antec reference I bought for $25 had an idea I liked of a four poronged standard power connector to pull power from the PSU and not mobo. Then one wire on 3 pin connector to mobo for fan speed. This one the A7N8X dlx did not like and would power down.
The 10 buck fan with half the cooling abaility had 3 pin connector and pulled power off the mobo. The only other spec on the box is fan speed 4500 RPM. this fan the mobo liked and went to post with no "system memory error" message that the other Antec reference fan in conjunction with the mobo power down cycle was producing. I will install XP today and see how the memory is really doing.

then I will look up the fans u fine posters listed here and see which one looks right to me and order that and keep the 10$ HSF as a backup. Thanks to all.

The Antec reference is going back to Compusa for a refund.
