Thank you for your help. I ended up doing a repair install of windows. I am able to login now. It might have been viruses that caused this. antivirus xp 2008 was popping up. so I got rid of that and am now doing a scan in safe mode. again, thank you for your help.
ok thanks. I was able to do a chkdsk /r on c and I was hoping that might help my problem, but unfortunately, it didn't help. I also tried to do what that microsoft link told me to do, but when I tried to execute dr watson, it told me it wasn't a good command.
