Redhat8 - pppd error on connect to isp

I've setup RH8 as a proxy running web content filtering. This all runs fine but now the client has asked me to add a modem so this becomes the router machine. Fine, but when I tell the modem to connect it dials the ISP then produces these errors: --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: ATZ ATZ OK...

AD W2k - promote BDC to PDC

Thanks for this advice. NTDSutil.exe doesn't work in this situation. The PDC no longer physically exists, it only exists in DNS, so NTDSutil.exe cannot find the role to seize it. Another DC cannot be added to the domain either for the same reason - DCPromo says it cannot contact a PDC for that...

AD W2k - promote BDC to PDC

Last night a power spike killed the raid array on the W2k AD "PDC" which held the global catalog. This is a full AD domain. The BDC has taken on authentication and dns and I've remapped user drives etc so there was no data loss (other than the o/s on the pdc) or disruption to users. I...

    DNS resolution, LAN & Internet

Sorry, misprint in previous post re replication. I have an AD domain with W2k server as PDC, 2 x W2k servers as BDC's & my w/stns run XP. The PDC's DNS points at itself (lan connection). The PDC has a modem attached, and the dns settings for this dial-up are the primary & 2ndary ISP DNS...

I have an AD domain with W2k server as PDC, 2 x W2k servers as BDC's & my w/stns run XP. The PDC's DNS points at itself (lan connection). The PDC has a modem attached, and the dns settings for this dial-up are the primary & 2ndary ISP DNS addresses. If I point my BDC's & w/stns DNS to the ISP...

    Terminal Services

Hi Matt, Term Svcs gives each user their own (hidden) session, so even if you're in the server room it's not obvious that someone's remote-admin'd into your server. I use VNC or pcanywhere to admin servers so I can see at a glance what's happening. Other than that it's as good as any other...

pcAnywhere gives a black screen on 'connect'

Thanks Dankelt - there were no other apps trying to answer the modem, so after trawling through Symantec's answers relating to modem drivers, video drivers, line errors etc, etc I gave up on pcanywhere & enabled RAS. All now fine, except I'm not sure how to setup the routing correctly & the...

pcAnywhere gives a black screen on 'connect'

I've just rebuilt my W2kAdvServ) server 'exactly' how it was previously. However, now when I connect to pcanywhere10 (by modem)on the server, using pcanywhere10 on the remote pc(W2k wstn), all I get is a cursor blinking in a (blank)black pcAnywhere window. If I close this window, pcanywhere...
