Yes the user has the appropriate permissions to view the files. the user can open the docs fine when no one else is using them..

the problem happens on any document I try and open that is being used by another user. All the docs have the correct extension. This is the only person in the office that has the problem.

I am opening the document up from a network location. The error message is: word cannot open the document, try one of the following: on the file menu, click open to open the document make sure the document has a .DOC extension (then the file location)
