    Remote Access and VPN

Follow up...Looks like I got it going. Using GotoAssist. If I remote in without the vpn active, it works like normal. Then the customer can manually 'test' the GotoAssist session after they connect to vpn. So it appears the GotoAssist Host Client REconnects to the GotoAssist server via the...

Trying to remote to a customer's pc. The remote client works fine. Using mywebex. The customer has a vpn connection that they need for certain applications. I loose remote access when the vpn client connects. Is there any way around this? I've tried adding the linksys router ip as an additional...

    ACTIVEX Controls install every time.

I've seen cases where Norton gets an update that causes this problem. Try disabling everything. I mean everything, not just what you think is logical. Experience speaking here. :) Then try again. Norton usually becomes active again after a reboot. (and right clicking on the icon in the tray...

    Com port driver reinstall

The device manager is only showing COM1 and LPT1. What happens is the registry has some old information and the wizard installs the ports with the next available numbers. Fixing it entails deleting the registry entry for the ports and then the wizard will properly assign the com port number when...

    Com port driver reinstall

I'm trying to find a microsoft link for a known problem with installing multiple com ports. It included deleting the registry information so that the proper com port numbers would show up after the wizard runs. This is on xp. Basically, the com ports are showing up as com9-12 instead of 3-6...

Toshiba shut down for no reason?

You might find more info over in the Toshiba support forums that is specific to your model. You'll find the link from the main toshiba website. When my Toshiba did the shutdown thing, they increased the amount of heat sink compound between the chip and the heat sink. That worked for a while...

    Laptop automatically shutting down?

Some Toshibas are known to have an overheating problem. I have one, although not the model you have. Go to the Toshiba forums over on Compuserve and see if the there is a bios update for your laptop. Some of the bios updates slow down the processor slighty so that it doesn't overheat. Other...

Hyperlink Issues - Some work, some don't

I found the email and they are from 2000. It's a little confusing to me at the moment since I don't do much html anymore, but it seems that the code shows something like "a ref> file c:\\ <link>" the c is replaced by the network drive designator when you use the network drive. This is because...

Hyperlink Issues - Some work, some don't

It has to do with the way the HTML code is handled. The hard drive is used as a default, but when you move to an alternate scenario, (like a CD) you have to explicitly specify the CD or the system variable for the CD drive. I went through this a few years ago when I created manuals on a CD, but...

    Aol 9 internet explorer 6

Try checking the option for "Automatically detect settings" in the IE Options. Also uncheck the other two options for proxy and autoconfigure script if they are checked. If that fails, try these commands...(credit goes to bcastner) regsvr32 urlmon.dll regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll regsvr32 Msjava.dll...

Java errors whilst looking at hotmail.com

Have you tried deleting the hotmail cookies? Try running scandisk to ensure there are no lost clusters? Have you checked for Hijacks? Spyware? Etc? What about firewall? If you are using Zonealarm, Norton, etc, temporarily disable it and see if it works.

    SVCHOST.EXE problem!

Thanks for the feedback. Interesting that you found that. I did the same for someone and it fixed their problem too, but it had to do with a web based application.

Power Lite flashes fan starts then nothing

Also check to make sure the hard drive is configured properly in the bios. Some drives can be set to three different sizes and if you don't setup those settings properly, it can cause an intermitent boot. Usually the drive has the sectors and cylinders listed on the drive label.

Power Lite flashes fan starts then nothing

I agree with agrebo. If your bio has a setting for memory speed, may want to fiddle with that and see if one of the settings works better.

    Testing a power supply

Richyd, What book? Update. I got a tester and both power supplies are good. So I get to keep the good power supply as a spare. The motherboard is bad. I used an old motherboard I had sitting around and was told the hard drive had Win 2000 on it. It turns out the drive had Win Xp and it...

IE asks to open ActiveX control !?

How are the machines being loaded? You using images? Now that the mention of secure websites came up, I had a user that had a similar problem with secure sites, but it was connecting to them. The encrytion and everything looked fine. We ended up reloading with the machines from cds instead of an...

    IE6 Browser Issue

When you start getting Java errors, sometimes it is caused by the Java software being outdated or currupted. If you've followed the FAQ to ensure that you don't have adware, spyware, hijacks, viruses, etc, and you followed the instructions to do a scratch load, try downloading java again and see...

    SVCHOST.EXE problem!

What I would do in that case then is compare a good exe file from a machine (same OS) that isn't having problems to the one that you have. I'm curious as to the name of the virus/marlware you found. Some of them don't clean very well, no matter what the anti virus cleaners tell you.
